I connect the PL259 from my G5RV antenna to the radio and it receives well with only the pin connected, but as soon as I screw on the shield the reception decreases? Is there a short somewhere in the lead or the ladder line, or is the balun bad, or what? Any thoughts?:confused1:
It's a Mod.#544, late 70's and in perfect condition. I was shocked when he asked me if I wanted it, even shipped it to me. Arriving Fri. 02/19. I already bought a key and an original TenTec mic for it.

Still gotta fully study the owner's manual and learn to properly operate it.
Fortunately the friend who "GAVE" it to me has been a HAM for 40 years and is my source for info.

It was my own idea to keep the elements from singing in the wind and by the way, it works well. Since then, I've heard that I wasn't the first to do it either. It's lighter than rope too.
