Good stuff Radio Tech, keep em coming. I allways get a sinking feeling when I see an electro has leaked, especially on the modern stuff with tiny tracks spaced half a molecule (or so it seems) apart.
I've got a Galaxy DX 959, and was thinking about adding some more channels.
I know I can do a bit of pin switching to give me some extras, but was looking at an add-on board.
I see two main ones, the Viagra and the Lescomm.
Any suggestions?
When are these companies going to catch up to the Ham world and have remote head radios.?
Even the smallest radios are a pain in the butt to mount in modern vehicles.
Yeh, it the reverse polarity diode was short it would blow as soon as it was switched on.
If it is a standard 25LTD then a 2 amp fuse should be about right.
If modded then its a different story....
If the swr meter is after the amp (between the amp and antenna) you may need to re-calibrate to suit the higher forward (and hence higher reflected) power.

If the swr meter is between the radio...

I did clean the board with pure alcohol, it cleaned it OK visually, but still stunk.
Make the mistake of getting some on the rubber ring around the channel selector, that got rid of the gunge along with the rubber ring.
I then decided to try the alcohol with some coca-cola and soon forgot...
When you say computer grade supply, you don't mean one from a PC do you?
If it is a power supply from an old Mini (mine is from a Wang system) you may find there is an adjustment pot. Have a look at the regulator board.
The one I have allows adjustment from 11 to nearly 16 volts @ around...
Make sure you have thick power cables sufficient to carry the current from the battery, and you are wired direct (not via the car wiring loom).
As sp5it said, reduce the drive a bit.
Run the car engine and try again.
Also if you are using SSB make sure the switch is set to SSB, it puts...
Well, after buying a radio on ebay that did not mention it was from a smoker I can see why people advertise "smoke free home".
1. The radio stunk as I unpacked it. Smelt like an ashtray.
2. There was some gunge over all the knobs, especially the channel and clarifier and on the mike (I...
