Steam Trains, railfanning, and other stuff!

The type numbers are the design of the engine by wheel arrangement, Lead wheels- Driving wheels- Trailing wheels, So a 4-8-4 would have 4 wheels on the lead truck and 8 driving wheels, ( Thats the ones that the siderods are on) and 4 wheels on the trailing truck under the firebox. There...

Steam Trains, railfanning, and other stuff!

I would have like to seen that, 611 was built for speed 80 was loafing, she had a top over 100 if they wanted to crowd her. The railroad gave many excuse as to why they dropped steam, I think the biggest one was greed, they thought by running a steam they might upset a freight somewhere and...

Steam Trains, railfanning, and other stuff!

CW Railroading like most other jobs are just that jobs, and sometimes it hard to find glory in them. From the outside looking in it may look great but seldom that is the way it is. Anyway I have been a steam nut for years, I know they take a lot of work and ain't the cleanest things around...

Pilot Travel Centers Settles Forfeiture Order

CW Yeah I like trains allways have I was raised beside the old Clinchfield railroad, it's CSX now. The Loco is a 4-8-4, # 2140 I think, not sure what road its from, I got the pic from a net search for 4-8-4's. Let's be civil and go to the general section and have a discussion about engines...

Pilot Travel Centers Settles Forfeiture Order

Sonwatcher makes a great point about the hf rigs, does anyone really think that by killing the exports that freebanding will stop? It won't because these hf radios are way to easy to convert, most are a lot easier than the exports. The reason I don't like the exports is because most of them are...

Pilot Travel Centers Settles Forfeiture Order

CWM you still didn't address my question in that why does the FCC even bother with truck stops and rinky dink cb shops? Why not go to the ports and get the junk when it comes in? ( I dislike exports as well but for a different reason, that is most of them are junk that people are ripped off...

Pilot Travel Centers Settles Forfeiture Order

(Despite all the angst and bitterness that has followed FCC's crackdown (actually not a "crackdown", but just doing the job they should've been doing all along), all this HAS resulted in much less CB traffic up on 28 MHZ. It used be that hams could hear people beeping and squeaking their way...

    Please explain

Big swing on am is for people that don't understand how am is suppose to work, and the only thing they accomplish is creating a splatter box that bleeds 200 khz each side of where they are trying to talk. What I have never understood is why the cb crowd is so fascinated with watching a meter...

    What if ?

Here's one for uin's to ponder on, what if someone brought back one of the old names in radio, lets say Halicrafters for example, and started a small factory here in the states somewhere. They start out with two radios, say a FCC legal 40 channel am, and a second SSB model, good radios with all...

All I can say is it's a good thing that I am not the owner or an admin. of this forum. If I were this junk that serves no purpose other than start bickering would be deleted on site. This junk isn't even on topic with the forum it is the Worldwide Radio Forum, not the political cesspool forum...

    How many CBer's are there?

A recent show on TLC said there were 2.2 million registered semi trucks in the US. I say at least 90% of them have a cb, that not counting the base stations. So 2.5 million would be a good starting guess

    Love's Travel Stops Fined $25,000!

CW I'm not saying that there are not problems, just that there are better ways of handling them other than to threaten people. When you come in someone else's house and start telling them the man is going to take you to jail, I know so cause so and so told me blah blah blah , don't you think...

    Love's Travel Stops Fined $25,000!

CW you must really live in a fantasy world, for there is very few that are in the FCC that give a rats hind end about CB, Ham or any of the other Civilian radio services. They are only interested in big money, the kind they get when they can sell spectrum to big business interests. Sure there are...

    Love's Travel Stops Fined $25,000!

This could get real interesting, if Love's lawyers bring up the vague wording in the fcc statements about why these radios are illegal. There is not a radio made that will meet what they say, most Yaesus, Kenwoods, Tentecs, Icoms, etc are easier to mod to 11 meters than most of the radios on the...

Some QRZ hams have to much time on their hands

Sonwatcher posted a thread over in the FCC section about the numbers of Hams. It is real easy to see why not many people get interested in amateur with the junk that is always going on, like this on qrz, and the comments that CWM is always posting, I've said it before and will say it again, the...
