I had a Daiwa 901-HP3 about 4 months ago and couldn't get it to measure (was in avg mode, not p.e.p) the SWRs on my Stryker 655. Needle wouldn't even twitch...even when dead keying 6 watts. I have to wonder if they even work on cb radios, or if the one I got was a dud. Keep us informed OP about...
Noise was reported to City Public Energy...my electricity provider. They came out and hooked up their spectrometer to my antenna coax to "hear what I hear." It took them about 2 weeks to fix the issue of power line noise. Turned out to be faulty/failing transformer connections 3/4 of a mile from...
Ya. I've been padding the gain to lessen the noise. I'd still like to know if anyone has had this base antenna problem and how they solved it..if ever.
Had a Spectrum 1600 and performed well. Receive was good and quiet on non active channels. Replaced it with a Sirio 827 and wow..noise floor is S4 on all channels 1-40, regardless of activity or time of day. Antenna is mounted on a 30 foot tower. Everything is grounded and coax is LMR 400uf. SWR...
My tech buddy took a look at the box and just said, and I quote,
"No more than 100 Watt carrier, SWR of 1:3 or less, and you should be fine, Don't be afraid to baby it. I'd do 60 watts carrier on the amp and leave your variable on the radio alone once it's set. Don't worry about your 100 watt...
I should have my Stryker 655 back soon. It's getting a lil' more PEP in it's step.
I'm taking the advice from everyone and just combining it. Gonna play it safe and use a 2-4 watt dead key from radio and just let it swing from there.
Does anyone know what the minimum & maximum input dead key for this amp? I emailed the FatBoy manufacturer too and was unable to get a response.
Thanks in advance.
I go out and get a FatBoy 4 pill 2879 w/variable (as suggested) and come to find that my radio isn't cutting the mustard on driving this thing. 2 watt dk, 32 watt swing doesn't appear to be enough. It appears that my radio wasn't tuned at Clay's....it had the modulation turned up a little and...
Agreed. I went ahead and hooked up my ol' Galaxy dx73v (.5 watt dk) in the place of the Stryker.
I'll run the 655 barefoot until I can find a different heater. Thanks for the advice.
Swapped 6 foot coax from radio with a 3 foot and problem gone. Errr, rather covered up. Cheatin' the meter. Must be some sort of an amp mismatch. Any idears are welcome.
I have the following:
Stryker SR-655HP turned down to 1 watt DK by Clay's.
Boomer 400 linear
TX Star DX 250 linear (no knob)
LMR4-400 rg8-u coax & 6 foot jumpers
Dosy 4000 meter (after radio & a mp)
When I key up the Boomer @ 1watt dk with the "pre amp" selector switch on, my radio's swr alarm...
