Talked to some truckers today on I95 while in traffic. Heard some folks on the bowl come through even with my filter in place. Some guy taking to his bud about only the flat side of his antenna working and not the vertical.
I keep keying up and tryin. But not much coming back.
what solar controller & panel setup are you using?
have you had any success with portable antennas for cb / gmrs / ham etc? (Not car mounted , but truly “portable” )
In case anyone needed some closure. I fixed the double bonding on 1 post and upgraded my straps to 1/2” tinned copper with 5/8” tinned connectors. Also used the “star bite” washers.
So now my setup is each of the mounting bracket bolts has tinned braid to tailgate.
Tail gate is bonded to...
Has anyone built a home brew radio/ battery / solar charge / dc power supply case?
I’m thinking of building a radio in ammo can type setup but could use some help with products / design “gotchas” to get started
any lessons learned you all have would be good to hear!
Hiya
I’m gonna start studying for my HAM tech license and would like to hear your thoughts on options for gear in my car.
I have a Jeep Wrangler (4 door) and space is tight! No real preference on make / model (since I don’t know jack yet). I thought some of the Yaesu or Icom products looked...
I keep keying up in my local area whenever I’m on the road. Even between stores when grocery shopping. I can usually pickup a over the road driver or similar. But at best I’ll get back a “yep hi”.
nearly 0 on the local chatter though.
if I remove the filter I’ll get Super Bowl 6 back. But I...
you know , that’s actually pretty cool looking. What software / application provides that data?
I had been asking around in other forums when they knew skip was coming in and they all seemed to just wet their finger and stick it in the air to see the wind direction...
I think part of my problem is too many braided copper bonds on 1 bolt / screw.
have you ever seen a way to merge multiple bonding straps? Perhaps there’s something like an alligator mouth that can Be crimped onto one and “bite” into the next?
Or just go hunting for more available points
So I went and did some more readings. Wondering if any of you had thoughts on these numbers
Radio -> amp -> filter -> antenna
operating on 11 meters in my mobile unit.
Between filter and antenna (With amp on and inline )
Chan 1 1.7
Chan 20 1.7
Chan 40 2
Between amp and filter (With amp...
100% agree. I was up in the 2’s and 3’s with regular tailgate mount. Then I scraped paint off the mount to let bolts touch metal to metal and got low 2’s.
Then I added tinned braided copper ground straps from mount to tailgate metal & tailgate to body frame and got mid 1’s.
think that’s...
:)
after the filter and before antenna, while dead key, my quick test showed 1.5/1.7 swr. Amp is on and inline. (Actually there isn’t an on / off switch, it only turns on when mic is keyed)
Do you have any thoughts on the right place to test swr?
I ran a quick test between filter and antenna and it was 1.5 /1.6 @ ch1 & ch40.
but other suggest I should be testing between amp and filter? And then otherS say test between radio and amp?
It appears all 3 spots will give different...
