A s9 w a straight 4 pill will kick arse!. Even w out the 4 pill it still kicks arse. I would stay away from S980. Go with the S9 and your golden. It does drift a bit on ssb when cold. But after a little while its fine. I can turn down my rf power to DK 1w or up to 10w. Swings +45w. Also no need...
Usually not good. It disrupts radio waves. Expect noisy crappy interference conditions today. It was not a direct earth facing flare so it wont be as bad as it could of been.
I have 2 dipoles in my attick. One is attached to the center beam and the other is suspended just below it. Both work awesome. Can not tell the difrence in either of them on the recieve end and both have talked around the world hundreds of times.
And your 25' dipole i believe is tuned for...
I swear by Yaesu!
I own:
FT 8900
FT 857
VX7r
VX2
FT60
FT212H
The only radio i had a problem w was the VX7r. (Operator error).
Sent it back to Yaesu for repair, the estimated the repair cost, called me to confirm fix 1 day after recieving it, fixed it and i had it back in my hands 3...
I checked out his site and i have heard many say they run his equipment. I will consider something like that as an option. His prices seem to be a bit high so maybe down the road. I will start off w a good quality mic first and then take it from there.
I have been running the stock mic on my 857D for a while now. I think its time for some better quality audio. I am thinking of going w a Heil mic(non headset).
What model Heil mic has anyone used? Whats the best in your opinion?
I spend many hours driving day to day and more often than not i find chatter on the 52. I find that when i threw my call out on it when ever some one gets back to me they have always said " my radio was on scan and thats how i heard you". Most people keep it in their scan cycle.
i have spoken...
Ditch the crappy fiberglass antennas. They will only get you 1 mile up the road. Especially if your going to run a decent radio like galaxy. Go w a 10k like the guy said above. But make sure you replace that coax. That is the most important thing especially if you said its not in good shape...
The only bands weather has any play in is VHF or high. And its only effect is DUCTING. Other than that NO weather has no impact.
Space weather has a huge effect in skip conditions.
I worked an alaska station on 38lsb and it might have been you. Not near my logg book thats in my truck. Was my first contact into alaska since i lived in hawaii in the late 90s

I have had a 2600 for about 15 or so years. I tried selling it about 8 yrs ago and was told by a few old timers that i would be completely stupid to sell it and that i would be mad once i did sell it hearing some one else out there w better audio ( my old 2600). So i ended up keeping it...
I have had the ATAS120 for a few years now hooked to an 857D on my ford exploder and has never had any issues. Except one time the tip was touching a twig on a tree branch over my truck and wouldnt tune. Other than that i live in new england and my weather varies from -20° to 105° year round and...
