Just to clarify, a radio that can be programmed with a computer and cable is NOT a Software Defined Radio. Even if it also can be controlled by computer (which I don't believe this radio can do, it is programming only) it is still not an SDR. An SDR is a completely different animal from this...
I don't suppose you might be able to give us some details about that antenna? That is insanely cool looking, and appears to be pretty compact, if not maybe portable.
Nice looking gear there! :tt1:
So what did you end up doing for a counterpoise / ground plane? You can usually adjust the angle between any radial elements and the driven element to get the impedance closer to 50 ohms. You might also need to do some trimming/adding of length, mainly to the radiator.
there - refers to a location--"let's go there"
their- refers to the possessive - "that's their decision"
they're - compound of the words "they" and "are" "they're going there to get their stuff"
Thanks.
That's what I've been thinking. This doesn't seem like anything really new here. Another RCI EPT-6900 type radio with a different display from it's cousins. I like this type of rig, but what is the big deal, beyond a little eye-candy?
Do you have some kind of counterpoise or ground radial system for this antenna? If all you have is the single 102 inch element to work with, I don't think you will get very good results. A quarter wave radiator like that would need at least one counterpoise wire of about the same length to...
That would be a real bonehead maneuver right there. Those two radios are not in the same class in any respect. The 2600 has a much better receive section, better audio, better build quality. The 99 and the other EPT-3600 based radios have drifting issues on SSB that make them not very...
I imagine those guys down in Mexico and Central and South America feel the same way about USA stations using the freeband!
There used to be some kind of informal arrangement at one time that English speaking was on 27.410-27.650 or so, and Spanish or Portuguese was mostly 27.655 on up to...
Uhhhh---WHAT??!!
I don't think so. It is a DE FACTO calling frequency, not recognized "officially" by ANY government. It is 100 percent illegal on a global scale. Fun, but unauthorized.
I think that most any CB or Export that is properly tuned with a good mic sounds great on the air. Mine do. I have no problem with people tweaking their audio to sound good, but the super wide stuff I think is really inconsiderate.
Digital modes have been on 11 meters for some time now. SSTV, PSK31, RTTY, Pactor have all been observed on 11 meters. More popular overseas than US it seems.
And you can already hook a CB or Export to your computer and use the sound card to tweak audio in/out. You certainly don't need USB...

And get a Wilson 1000 magmount antenna, you have a very nice little starter CB and a great antenna.
I have a Galaxy DX2517 that is set up this way. It covers 26.965 to 29.665. It is also set up with an IX for soundcard modes, and I've run SSTV and PSK31 on it with good results. It makes an excellent dedicated 10 meter SSB and AM/FM simplex radio. It sounds so nice with the Astatic 10-DA-l...
I've had mine since 2001. Love it. I have the Inrad 2.1Khz crystal filter in the RX side, a Collins mechanical 2.5 on the TX, the MD100 desk mic, and a TiniCat-847 interface. This rig has done everything I've wanted out of it. You have to do the open TX mod to get 60 meters.
I wish Yaesu...
