    New antenna from Sirio Gain-Master

PERFECT QUESTION!!!!!!!..... because (as we all know), an antenna can NOT "CREATE" power <gain>, rather, focus the wave. If the GainMaster has any gain at all relative to it's 5/8 wave or .64 wave peers, it could ONLY possibly come from TOA (take off angle) aka: angle of radiation or launch...

Good quality RG8, 9913, LMR400, RG213 etc, coax cable to help minimize RFI. Good station and antenna grounding. Clean-est possible transmitted signal quality; RCI does pretty darn good in this regard. You could always add channels to the 2547 and wind up with 40 uppers and 40 lowers...

Whats the best ALL-Band Tranceiver for $500-$600 New?

+1 on the Yaesu's (if you can find them in that price range), otherwise a used Icom IC-706MKIIG, or an IC-718, or a Yaesu FT-450 should all fall close to that price range. Also (possibly) a used Kenwood TS-570 if u can find one. Prices on QRZ.com seem to be better than eBay. Seems like ppl...

    Is this story possibly true?

Gud question.... I guess it's the WAY the magnetic lines are propagating.... with an ANTENNA, you have ELECTRICAL waves and MAGNETIC waves at 90 degrees to each other propagating AWAY from the antenna. With an MRI you have <I guess> a COIL (kind of like an electromagnet) which goes over...

    Is this story possibly true?

It's not necessarily the RF (per se) at the fundamental or a harmonic frequency that would cause the 'burn', rather the: MAGNETIC FIELD created by the RF. See attached for example: IMRSER Page They specifically warn against bracelets, jewelry, etc.... Could've been RF induced...

    Is this story possibly true?

Completely possible BUT...... If the transmitter was on 27 MHz AM side, it's more likely that the RF burn was due to a harmonic much higher in freq to which the wrist band was harmonically related & not the fundamental frequency.

Cobra 29. . . Since I am new to CBs and all

You may keep the 'switch' in whatever position you desire, S/RF, or SWR, or CAL. Ideally however, you should only have it in CAL when adjusting your SWR CAL knob for full scale, and then switch over to SWR to check your antenna's Standing Wave Radio. I usually keep mine in the S/RF position...

In the market for new HF rig, but which one?

With that kind of budget you really could have ANYTHING out there. I'd suggest either Icom IC-7600, or Yaesu FTDX-5000 series. I'd also heed the suggestions to put some $$$ towards your antenna setup(s). If multi-band / multi-mode is your thing, look at Kenwood TS-2000 series, or new Icom...

    Wading in excrement

With mobile antennas, alot of the efficiency has to do with the LENGTH of the radiator, with respect to 1/4 wavelength monopole. Having said that, My 102" SS TRUE 1/4wave whip performs BEST, followed by my 80" Half Breed, followed by my 72" center loaded Anttron 1700 (close performer to...

    MAGNUM 257 HP Review

One of the BEST, thorough, and comprehensive non-biased reviews I've ever read..... AND, based on the responses to this thread, I'd have to say that I'm not alone in this observation. :thumbup1:

Your first CB? what year started? any other radio interest?

My first exposure to CB was a pair of 100mW walkie talkies on channel 14 my uncle gave me for my 12th b'day in 1973. I was always experimenting with trying to get more range from them, so I added approx 36-40' (or so) of insulated wire from the walkie-talkie antenna, out the window, and to...

    Need Help Getting Started ....

Congrats. For a $400 budget, look for a used Kenwood TS-120, 130 or 140 (or equivalents from Yaesu or Icom like an IC-720, 730, 735, 740, etc.), a 20 amp power supply, a used antenna tuner, and a multi-band dipole like a G5RV and/or a Carolina Windom antenna. You'll be up and running on...

NEED INFO ON NEW GALAXY 959 CHANNEL MOD

I'm not sure about the "New" 959's, but some of the older versions of the 959s were not modifiyable for extra channels without a Viagra board. If the PLL is an MB8719, it should be completely modifiable with just switches to the PLL. If the PLL is an RCI8719, you'll need tha Viagra Board. I...

    RCI-3900HP Review & Initial Impressions

Just picked up a new Ranger RCI-3900HP AM/FM/CW/SSB dual (MOSFET) final radio this weekend & have been playing around & modding it. Here are my initial impressions: Out of the box performance is DISMAL (at best). Review can be found here: YouTube - RCI 3900HP Review It was off freq and...

    Anyone use 60m?

I only worked 1 60m contact just after the allocation and confirmed the QSO and to my delight it was Hawaii KH7, so it does indeed work!; it's just so sparsely populated (for now).

Great Mic Sound for your CB or Export Radio-part 4

This is really GREAT.... I've been following all parts thus far and it really helps in bringing 'High Fidelity' audio to the Amateur & CB airwaves. It's always a pleasure to work someone who has nice, clear, brilliant and articulate audio; just makes the QSO that much more enjoyable. Because...

Impressions of the Icom IC-7000 DSP

My only experience with the IC-7000 was using one on Field Day. I'd have to agree with you that the 'best' way to run mobile is to keep the rig's ANF or DNR setting about half way, and then 'clean it up' with an external audio DSP filter. That's what I use for the IC-706MKIIG mobile and it...

    What do you think??

For SSB use the 2970 will prove to be the most freq stable. For AM use, the Magnum S9 or the SS158 will probably be the 'loudest', but because of the Top Gun modules, I'd have to give the nod to the S9. For SSB, I think the SS158 would be the most UNSTABLE of the bunch, from the reviews I've...
