The 667 used a single 2290 to drive 4 2879 transistors.
Later models used two mosfets in place of the 2290.
If your amp has a 2879 as a driver it has been modified.
We have to remember that these were " designed" for older radios that struggled to reach 3.5-4 watts output with 12-16 watt peaks...

This is one of many vertical transformer amps built that has a simple bias on the board that has been disabled.
