One or more of the amp transistors is shorted internally and that is where all your current and voltage is going. Dud transistor is probably getting very hot so should be easy to figure out which one(s) are at fault. Good Luck with it. Glad it wasn't a radio problem!
Do you mean an amp you were running external to the radio, or do you mean you removed the final PA stage from the radio?
Just curious as you never mentioned an external amp in your original post.........
Work day for me but I had the shop radio on 38 and later on 555 and I heard DX coming in on and off all day.......... California & Hawaii in the midday on 38. Later the skip went very very long and 38 was dead, but deep South America (Brazil, Argentina etc.) was booming in on 555USB and...
I had something similar happen recently with my 5555N2 and it was the crappy fuse holder. I replaced it with a heavy duty holder and everything went back to normal.
Conditions have slowly been improving out here. Had Southern Cal, Florida, Kentucky, Jamaica, a ton of Carolina's, Mexico & Hawaii so far today........
Second day in row with decent skip.
Hope conditions come around soon for those of you without........I feel your pain!
1972. I was 7 years old and was fascinated by my Moms kitchen table radio. I was convinced there were tiny people in there singing and talking; so one day while Mom was busy with laundry I snuck some tools from Dads workshop and took the back off the radio.. No tiny people were in there but...
I'm pretty sure it will be what I suspected at the very beginning of this long thread......which is an internet-over-powerline system in the neighbors house.
I had that issue here and paid out of pocket to switch the neighbor to a wired ethernet/wifi system.
I scan through that band from time to time when DX is in. Lots of stuff still going on down there....... I hear military, various utilities especially in rural areas, California Hwy Patrol, and a shit ton of rural fire departments all over the U.S.
And just like 11 meters, that whole 30-50...
Fairly remote island off the west coast of Canada. Less than 1000 people on the island. Three ferries and at least 12 hours travel time just to reach the mainland of North America (Vancouver) so we don't go away very often!
We live on a 2 acre homestead with a few (but not many) nearby...
Just got on for 30 minutes and made another 12 contacts......mostly in Texas and Kentucky. The band is wide open to pretty much the whole of North and Central America right now!! Regular band is hopping and and there's lots going on up above 40 too.........
Every time I call CQ I get several...
The opening only lasted a few hours. By 2pm PST it was all over and back to mostly static. Still hearing a few stations from the southern US mixed in with some faint Australians, but they are way down in the weeds. It was sure fun while it lasted!
Well you haven't been missing much JJ! It's been slim pickings until today....just a little California, Mexico and Hawaii on occasion.
Nice to have some real conditions happening for once. I won't get my expectations too high though; it will probably be back to static tomorrow........
Incredible conditions right now! Just talked to 15 stations in a row......all of them in Texas, Missouri, Louisiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Arkansas. Everybody pounding in with huge signals on 36 thru 40 and lots of folks in that same geographical area up above 40 as well.... 27.435, 27.485...
Central valley of California, Bay area, and Arizona all booming in here the last few hours. No problem making contacts on a barefoot 5555N2 this afternoon.......
Hope others are getting some conditions as well; it's been awfully quiet the last few days!
Don't remember that! I had my first SSB rig around the late 1980's and the clarifier was either "locked" or "unlocked" by then. Never heard it called anything else until this discussion came up here on WWDX.
I have been wondering the same thing! I upgraded my long case 5555N2 as well. No problems and no regrets but I would like to have the old firmware handy just in case I do ever need to roll back for some reason. I wonder if Pez could post it here for us?
I also realized yesterday that the...
