Haha, thanks Cap. Yep, three way plug and continuity on everything except my dumb*ss brain. I just assumed that the keys were actually hitting the contacts when they were just hitting the stops. I found out when I thought of cleaning the contacts.
Hey guys, I got an mfj 564 iambic paddle and I can't make it work on my FT857D. I made sure there was continuity and no shorts on my wire. I even tried to just plug it in the jack and turned on the keyer. When I touched the contacts, I got the corresponding dits and dahs but when I wire the...
We still need 5wpm for class A here in DU land. I just got my class B ticket(after 4 months since passing the test) and started on learning CW. Well, surprise surprise... I got hooked. I'm now trying to learn CW for true and just got me a straight key. I hope to get a CW QSO in about a month or...
Thanks for the replies. That's not mine and is being sold online here. Even the seller doesn't know what it is. I just thought I'd ask here where guys have lots more knowledge and might luck out on a good deal for a 2 meter amp. No such luck, seems like. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for the quick replies.
How far from metal does my twin lead have to be? My roof and gutters are tin and additionally my window sill is aluminum and the windows have iron grills on them.
Will all that metal be an issue if my twin lead goes directly through my tuner...
Hey antenna gurus, I'm asking for your help again.
I'm planning to throw up a doublet cut at around 130 feet total length and fed with 300 ohm twin lead(tv antenna wire) directly into an mfj949e.
I have two questions. First, would it be better if I use a 4:1 balun on the feedline and not...
I guess I'll have to find another solution then. I cant seem to figure out the proper way to do it. Thanks for all the replies guys.
It seems like there are more issues with a random wire than Im willing to handle. All your replies are much appreciated.
Like the title says, a random wire straight into the tuner. Im concerned with lengths to avoid or go for and grounding the system.
I will make or buy an end fed at some point but right now its a pain as I will have to import it to DU land.
Not yet. I keep refreshing the exam results page though. Some friends say it'll take at least a month and the hard copy(which I'll need to apply for the upgrade} will take even longer... :(
I started studying for the upgrade a week after passing Tech. :D
Just reading and taking mock exams and researching. Nothing too serious, just spent a little time because I don't like to cram. :)
Thanks BJ. I'm probably not going for an end fed. Random wire for getting on air temporarily sounds like the way to go for me. Any thoughts on the random wire to the MFJ949E tuner/?
