if you find one open it up the original element has a solid back plate on it . the new elements have a opening in the back of the element . as long as it has the good element you should be good .

my 2970n2 seems to have a little issue with the mic cord .
sitrep- using it in a mobile setup with 102" sw
happens on all frequencies
mic is the stock 158 with the channel buttons on the side .
whenever i am holding the mic/cord the static drastically decreases ...
1.8 isnt anything to worry about however your losing performance a tid bit.
is the antenna on a mast or just mounted to the wood? try running a ground cable to a ground rod if you havent already .
Worst case, thats the lowest swr you can achieve... no worries or try better grounding or...
that seems like it would scream "look at me " lol
I think the iphone is a pain in the butt carrying around in my pocket, much less anything bigger. Now that i mention it, i have seen some pretty large phones and one actually was concave to be a better flush fit for the butt cheeks .....no kidding
try making a NVIS style antenna . or run a horizontal dipole .
and ask if running an antenna that is not attached yo the house would be acceptable.
I would have just put an antenna up vs asking to in advance . most landlords will say no if asked in advance , and would probably not have...
also in the service manual(page 3 ) it states in the receiver section that it mentions 50mhz . (is that a filter or can it hear those frequencies ?

still was used for the ef johnson radio . homemade antenna (coax ). we do it all the time . well im retired..
never deployed used on body only . i have the antenna still . some use the bendable whips and some use coax .
