My Granddad ran one of these for many years. It was the first mobile radio I ever talked SSB on. It's nothing great as far as radios go, but it sure has that 70s 'bling' factor. It works, but seems low on TX power. I'm thinking it probably needs a recap and alignment. Probably the prettiest...

Is it possible to get 11 meters on this rig?

My Washington sounds terrific with the Rocketbox HD 500, I get great reports all the time. Even without the extra whiskeys it sounds good, especially with the free Digimike I got with it.

The box seems to play nice with my new Washington. But not so good on AM, because I have to turn down the RF power to get 4-7W input drive, so the radio doesn't have enough PEP to drive it and get full power. About 550 plus on SSB though.

I did a search before starting this one, nothing came up. Ah well...apologies.

I'm using the 500HD and seems to work very well with my new President Washington.

A friend of mine just gave me one of these. Never used a Mosfet amp before, but I hear they're not as forgiving as a regular transistor amp. Anyone else tried one of these?

Dang, I got mine for $89.99 plus shipping not 6 months ago.

I actually have another UPD 858 Grant in the woodwork somewhere... If memory serves me correct, I had it recapped and aligned in 2019, just before moving from the deep freeze of northwest WI to the TN valley. Still going through boxes to find it, but there aren't a whole lot more to go through...

Does anyone know if there's a service manual for this radio?
