Due to what Texas star is using as DEI transistors,
they are now also throw away amps. Running any amp that goes "Pop" at anything above 1.3:1 is not
logical for a mobile application. SWR can increase due to near field objects like passing large metal semi on the interstate. Having a perfect...
Great post other than what is the reading on the s-meter of s-7 vs s-0? Trying to understand what it is measuring and why your the choice of frequency @ 14.200 why?
Plus it’s odd the manual for the 991a states:
“When transmitting in the AM mode, set a maximum (carrier) power output of 25...
Verbiage that needs to be outlawed on all radio forums ( or every forum just the same )
My top 2:
"Its a BEAST" Used in regards to radios, amplifiers antennas and such.
"I pulled the trigger" "I was about to pull the trigger" In regards to making a purchase.

Own an IC-7300 among others. As I stated in this thread I have owned every generation of DSP and my lack of enthusiasm for DSP stands extends to the Ic-7300.
I swear I have been through every evolution in DSP
and to say its some great feature? I say whatever!
I find myself turning it off or setting it at it's lowest level because to me it is as irritating as the noise it is suppose to cure. It's just a different version of irritating noise but now...
Ya it will eat it for lunch, or have you crash in the car in front you you while trying to change settings on a 90% menu driven radio. Wait what? How is it I switch to lower SSB buried deep in this menu?
Bang.... just slammed into a family of 4....
No wonder that sorry excuse for a radio...
You have to consider the price point is $300.00
below the next steps up. As a primary radio no, but for traveling radio it's not a bad option price considered. It beats having a $150.00 cobra 29
and also live a dual use life. I have many primary radios and would not consider this one for...
Nope have a desk full of Icom's and such. Don't need a Cobra CB as you are inferring. Would make a nice dual use radio in a camper while traveling. 10, 20 meters etc and 11 meters all in one low priced unit. Yep 11 meters still is helpful traveling and not on SSB. See ya on 27.385L.....
I understand this is a lower end radio, and not exoercting the world of it, but how usable is the reciever as research says the NB is crap.
Also has anyone played with one on AM and tell me if is usable in that mode of transmission?
I have grown to do what a parent learns to do with screaming toddlers and crying baby's, I just tune them out. More than anything what bugs me is when 2 operators rag chew on 38L when the conditions are good as you know they are locals some place and doing it on purpose.
Funny thing about Super Bowl bleed boxes is the nearest super bowl operator is about 25 miles away from me and his bleed box is so bad and overdriven that when I switch to a 300 Watt dummy load i can still hear him.
Curious if anyone remembers from the 1970's the "BLACK TUBE" that was available to supposedy increase radio output?
I never really knew what this replacement tube did or what increase in Watts out it was capable of, but I remember licensed CB operators sneaking the black tube into their beloved...
I find in really cool to see that people on 11 meters today run equipment that was around in the early days of CB. Many of these radios had been radios I dreamed about but a junior high student could never afford. Now I see them posted and it's great to see them still in operation today.
Maybe now that their extra $600 per week on unemployment has run out, maybe the jackasses will be forced to go back to work and will have less time in moms basement to be such distributions.
Many Sirio 827, 1600 antennas have been in service for a decade problem free. As I have gotten older I also try not to over think things. This is a $200 antenna so if it needs to be replaced 5-10 years so be it. Some don't use the factory sleeves and screws and cut slots and use clamps...
