Hello Jim,
Right now my J Pole is working perfectly and using 25 watts I get to all the mid Florida repeaters that im interested in. The 30th of April I will be going to the Gainesville Amateur Radio hamfest. I have already registered to take my General exam while i'm there.
Your mention of...
Just as a note of interest for those that like old equipment like me.....
Three days ago I decided to take the risk and purchase an old Heathkit GD-1B Grid Dip Meter off Ebay. Since then I have been searching in my spare time for a manual for it since the unit does not come with one. They...
Congratulations Peter, super job ! All that studying paid off. I've got to wait until next month to be able to take my exam for General. I've done my homework to the point im not really worried about passing it, its just that I'm so darn anxious. I'm mainly interested in RTTY and PSK31 along...
Capt....The SWR meter is a SWAN Electronics SWR-1. The upper limit is 100 watts. I live in Ocala, FL. and while operating thru the Gainsville repeater which is 35 miles north of me I got excellent reports from operators north of Gainsville. I'm not changing anything.

Well I'm happy to say that my SWR is now just nugging off the 1:1 mark at 60 Watts and doesn't move at all on 25 Watts. To begin with I forgot all about the longest element that is the part below the elbo. It is supposed to be between 18 to 20 inches long and I had it well over 3 feet. I cut it...
Yes Booty I did correct it. I'm still making changes and from what I can tell I have a bad SWR meter. When I hold down on the mike button the meter goes all the way to the right and then just slowly drops back to zero. I am able to set it properly but for only a couple of seconds. The SWR right...
I'm using 5/8 inch (Lowe's called it 1/2 inch) tubing and I have decided to leave the separation of 3 1/4 inch between the two vertical's alone. The long piece is 58 1/4 and the shorter piece is 19 3/4 inches.
Yesterday I bid on an old Heathkit GD-1B Grid Dip Meter at $36.95 and forgot about...
2 Meter Jpole Page
The only part of it that i'm concerned about right now is the distance of 1.8 inches between the 2 vertical elements. It doesn't seem like enough distance. I noticed that this distance doesn't change between 144.000 and 149.000.
I will be using this antenna on 146.610...
Thanks for the idea kd-5-bgt. I just got a phone call so now i'll be going to the doctors office instead of doing what I want and that is working on my antenna tomorrow morning. So, maybe Friday morning. I just can't believe that this antenna is so far off resonance but it is.
I sure...
Thanks Doc,,,,It's in the high 80's here in Ocala and I just came back in from trying everything I can think of including your suggestion. I have a huge headache too. I just wish I had a grid dip meter. I looked them up on the internet and they don't come cheap. Now I'm going to wait until...
I have built a J-Pole antenna exactly as shown on the following web site...
2 Meter J-pole Antenna Construction Plans
It can be seen here....
Family Home Page
It is supposed to show a SWR of 1.2 or so at 146.000 from what I can figure out. Instead I get a off the scales reading no...
I dont know of a program but this is what I do....
I found this on the internet and changed the text in Microsoft Word and then saved it to a folder that I named QSL Example. Then I sent it via email. The next time you need it just open it with WORD again and change the info and email it. I...
RatSoW8 I complettely enjoyed reading your post. :-) It reminds me of the day I sold my Drake TR4 back in the late 1960's. I missed it before the day was over. I never got the chance to get my hands on another one but have never stopped looking for one that was in fair condition. And your...
Congratulations Jim. I just set up my Kenwood -TM271 in my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT. I decided against drilling holes that cant be repaired. I'm using a magnet mount for 2M. I set the antenna just ahead of the "bed light/brake light" that is on the back of the pickup cab and then using a rat tail...
Using multipsk and the mode of BPSK31 I am able to copy a signal like in the picture I posted above. Not the same station of course but this one just happened to be ARRL.
Multipsk doesn't seem to have plain ole PSK31 though so for that I will use MMTTY.
I just downloaded Ham Radio...
W5LZ...That what im thinking too. I doubt if I would have much luck anyway.
Doctor... I'm going to see if I can find multipsk right now. I just downloaded JT65-HF. I haven't read the PDF file yet but so far all I have copied is the call sign info of 3 different stations. I'm having fun...
I enjoy listening/copying PSK31 and when I run across a signal that I can't copy using either MMTTY or Digipan I start experimenting. I've tried both USB and LSB as well as RTTY on MMTTY with zero results. Right now Im listening to a strong signal on 9.028 and can't copy it. Does anyone know...
Thats it BJ, thats the one I was referring to. I feel you are so lucky to have it, wish it was mine. Brings back a lot of wonderful memories. I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

It was just the base and paddles that was black. I just took a look on E-Bay and couldnt find one with a flat bar.
It was a joy to operate. I have played with the settings on this one quite a bit and it doesn't compare to the one i used back in the ole days. Maybe I should call Scott again...
All I remember about the key was the fact that the bar was flat and everything about it was the color of black. You could slow it down big time just by sliding the weight forward. I would love to have it here right now. I'm coming along slowly with mine but it is no where's near the key I had in...
