Ok, since you will be in recieve mode til you get your ticket I wouldnt get to critical on antennas. A fan dipole with legs cut for 10,20, and 80 would get you started and maxamize your recieving on all bands.
If you are going to use this radio on 11, I would suggest a good swr/watt meter. And...
Just to throw you another option, many of the newer solid state ham rigs can be had for what a mint 101 or 102 can be purchased for. With more features and options. All of which perform great on ssb and a few has decent am. This would also give you room to grow if you decide to venture into ham...
How about a little more information, what lic. do you have?
Antenna limitations such as appartments or rental agreements?
What are your goals?
Are you in the city or country, general location.
The more information you give us the more we can help.:thumbup1:
I run a 101e and have had great reports. I brought mine to Mr. Cambell for a few problems and had good service with him. He is not exactly cb friendly but would probably sell you a radio. I dont know about any mods though. A ft 102 would be better if you can find one, but they bring a premium...
If you are going to be mobile only I would get a dual band vhf/uhf full power mobile rig such as the Kenwood v71a "just an example" I never liked the ht thing because I live so far from any repeaters. If you are going to bring this into the house, I would suggest more radio like the icom 706mIIg...
Welcome. I'm down for tower move and new antennas but should be back up in a month or so. I'm usually on 146.520,144.200,50.125,50.525,3.965,3.810.
The colt 45 is a taller can with more capture area and higher power handling, it also has a lower angle of radiation. Two cases of 45 will smoke a gain master.:tt2::D
If you people are going to come down here and make fun of my stuff, at least let me know when so I can clean the outhouse.:tt2::tt2:
Besides coors lite has more audio gain than miller.:D
Sounds like a good plan. I'm doing the same thing. The new tower is 70' of rohn 25. 2meter ringo on top, m2 2m5wl horiz, 2m5wl vert, 5 element 6 meter horiz. 6 meter ringo on side arm under the 5 element. 80 meter full wave loop at 60', fan dipole for 160-80-40. 2nd tower is 40' gonna put 3 ele...
My diamond 7900a would out perform my dual band larson but was too long and bulky, kept hitting stuff. I put the larson back on and did without the extra gain.
I also have a 5/8 wave maxrad nmo trunk on my work car that has been problem free.
