I just finished looking at a schematic of a 21 and didn't see a SCR but dosen't mean it not there. Look for a transistor on a heat sink that looks like a CB final, starting with a TYN prefix (TYN-682, 692) worth a shot. May have a different number so the NTE-ECG cross reference comes in handy...

.......you mentioned replacing "the 2n3055"...did you check the others? They mostly have 4 pass transistors in that amperage range. If yours has the "crowbar" overload protection circuit.....good idea to replace the SCR. Most of the time when the pass transistors short out, the voltage regulator...

........It can be replaced, but with alot of work. First take a desoldering tool (solder sucker) and after removing load, remove the solder from the top of the mount. Now the fun part...take a small flat screwdriver, and gradually pry up the cap on the bottom (looks like an old metal bottelcap)...

.........I have one that had the same problem plus alot of digital noise. After not finding anything on the net, I removed the board and found cracked/broken solder joints at the volume slide control. After re-soldering them, the mic works like a new one......let me know how it goes. 73s, Pluto.
