Thank you for the feedback. Occasionally, I get one right!

I may be wrong about this, and I did not see it stated by anyone, but the static ball has NO effect on an antenna's radiation characteristics. It's there to help control noise generated by the antenna/wind interaction. It may "hear" better since noise is kept down but otherwise nothing happens...

What is/was your favorite dual-band HT??

I have a Yaesu FT-51R I use almost exclusively. Yes, it's a 10 year-old radio, but the speaker-mic for it is outstanding. Unlike many other speaker-mics, this one contains a freq display along with the up/down buttons. This means i can change freqs or check where the radio is tuned without...

    Question.

FI'm posting facts. And this site is the only one I'm discussing illegal ten meter pirate operations. I you don't lilke what I say, tough sh!t

    Question.

No, it's documented somewhere. Some hams did track someone down, gathered audio and video evidence and the FCC fined the subject. I will see if I can find it and will post the location. But since the pirates claim it is no big deal to operate where they're not supposed to, and they know this...

    A99 Imax200 hf recieve

Using antennas for just HF receive purposes is much less critical than using them to transmit, so feel free to do this. Even on VHF and UHF receive, it'll work. I used to use a CB ground plane to monitor several freqs in the VHF and UHF public safety bands. and it worked fine for my purposes. 73.

    Question.

Nope. FCC does not consider it to be legal to transmit on a freq a station has no licene for. There have been several incidents where hams used mofified radios in what they considered emergencies on police freqs. FCC cited them for doing so.It's a myth that anybody can do this. You and I and...

    Question.

Okay. Using your logi, then, no one needs a driver's license to operate a car on a publci roadway, huh? I have exceeded speed limits on purpose many, many times. I used to be on a fire dept ambulance crew. 30 years. I'm sure there have been times where I was not paying attention to my...

    Question.

Who's enforcing anything? The original poster apparently thinks he's okay since he's using 26 megs and not 28. If I were to find concrete evidence that an intruder on 10 meters was located in a specific area and was a specific person, you're dammed right I would submit it to the FCC for...

    High swr reading

You may still have a problem with the feedline or connectors even if they do not present a short on the meter. Something could be loose on the antenna's base, a connector may be bad or loose, water might be in the coax or any number of other things. Since you're having the same problem with two...

    Question.

Oh, I dunno, what I would do. It depends on the unique set of cermcumstance. Fut some pirate operators on 10 meters were operating mobile one time. A group of hams DF's them, located them on the road and videotaped them talking out of band. It was turned over to the FCC and the drivers were all...
  12. B

    Question.

This has absolutely everything to do with right and wrong. If you operate outside of the 40 channels, you're breaking the law. You have no business on 26 or 28 mhz without the applicable license. You are trespassing on other people's legal use of those freqs. I don't care if you are a trucker or...
  13. B

    Question.

No sir. 10 meters has illegal ops on it too. And. You are just as illegal and causing problems for legal stations on 26 mhz. You don't belong there. You are breaking FCC regs by being there without an FCC license to be there. You're obviously ignorant about where you are operating outside of...

    SWR HAPPENINGS ?

I was about to say that you had a problem in the feed line or the connectors until I read this post. In general, varying so badly between the SWR at the base of the antenna feed point and the end of the line at the radio does indicate a problem with the line and/or connections not the antenna...

Survivalist need ham rig what do we need?

I'd repeat the "get a license" opinion. You have no legal way to operate the radios for testing otherwise. And even if something happens and things get bad, there would still be legally-operated ham radios doing communications work with RACES stations which are going to still be operating in...

    HTX100

This section is for Amateur Radio. You are asking for mods to make the radio illegal to work outside the ham bands. That would not be an amateur radio discussion. I don't think I'm to stay on this site any longer given the amount of illegal mods people put here and freely talk about. This...

    g5rv dipole

I started off with a B&W folded dipole. Worked 80 through 10 meters and center-fed. I think it was 60 feet long. These things do not require any tuning. You can hang it flatop or as a sloper or an inverted V. But they're not cheap. I think it's around 250 bucks. 73

    recievers

I was fooling around on Google a while back and did a search for "SWL antenna" and got a whole bunch of good sites. I'd bet if you did a search on multimode radio scanners, you should get the same results. Use radio in the subject line so you don't get millions of computer scanner results. 73

    Help with cb installation

You can run the ground wire next to the positive wire if you wish. There wouldn't be a potential problem with ti. All mine are taped together and work just fine.
