These are Chinese‑made, just like almost everything else these days. I’ve had a few Chinese radios work fine one day and quit the next. Granted, those were cheap ham HTs and not an overpriced export model, but it does happen.
Honestly, I really hope they addressed the issues the H3 had—especially the lack of a proper voltage regulator. I’ve never been a fan of the H3. I bought two, and one died within a couple of months. The other still works, but I barely use it anymore.
I actually prefer the H8 over the H3. Sure...

It depends on your intended use. If you're aiming for loud, punchy AM audio on eleven meters, the Astatic D104M6 or 575M6 are great choices. However, if you're operating on ten meter SSB or FM, the stock microphone should perform just fine.
