It has been pretty quiet this early afternoon. Not much going on with LSB 38, but that 1-1-1-1... dummy keeps popping up. I'm hearing very little activity on LSB 37. The usual activity on LSB 39 and LSB 36 is just not there. It is a very tame day for 11 meter DX.

I suggest we all just learn español. That would be easier and more useful than petitioning the FCC.

Conditions today were not particularly favorable. There wasn't a lot of traffic. However, I was hearing stations in Arizona and California. One California station was talking to someone in Hawaii. I was picking them up both, but nobody was hearing me and my barefoot base.

I've got a Midland MXTA26 and the Luiton version. Excellent antennas.

11 meters was quiet out there. In the past, I had made some interesting contacts out on the water. I'll keep pushing my luck in the days to come.

I'm out on my boat at Dry Tortugas National Park. This park is set of islands 70 miles out in the middle of the ocean. I've got my SSB walkie talkie and a marine CB antenna, so I'm going to be giving some call outs this afternoon on USB 40.

Get the measurement right and a straight forward 1/4 wave is the easier for the do-it-yourselfer. Matching network should not be needed when done right.

I understand a Starduster to be a 1/2 wave, center fed dipole. I've never heard of or seen a 5/8 wave version.

My fiberglass antennas have lasted me 30 and 40 years because I always wrap them in wiring loom. The loom becomes sacrificial as the UV rays damage it instead of the antenna. My A99 is close to 20 years old. My IMAX is close to 15. The fibrglass on each is holding up fine. A Workman Bandit...

That capacitor is very finicky. Workable readings one second and bizarre ones the next.

The antenna is over 10 years old. I purchased it new and had it stored away until recently because of some health issues.
