    Ranger RCI 29 Base Station

It's takes a certain kinda buyer.. I agree for $600 you could pick up a used ham rig for ssb/freeband work and a power mic & Cobra 29 and with a little tune for AM.. This would be a better option in my opinion for around the same $.

    Benin now on the air......

Cool to see someone working split on 11m. Hopefully everyone understands this because there is always that "one guy".

    President Lincoln II+ VFO Instructions

14 to 14.5 is a safe range to stay in. If you're getting big voltage drops when keying up you should look at a better power supply. Sounds like it has poor regulation or is simply to small for the radio...

    DXpedition to Clipperton Island

I tried for about a half hour on 12 m today. No luck. 100 w and a vertical hard to get through the pile. I will continue to try and should succeed eventually on 10 or 12.. This will be a new one for me. Looks like they will be active for a couple weeks. I might have better luck after a few days..

    Interfering With Neighbors TV

I went through this about 10 yrs back with my old next door neighbor. I installed an old Bencher YA-1 low pass filter. I also knocked on his door and offered to install a high-pass pass filter in his TV antenna coax. I explained I had installed the "newest latest and greatest" filter I could...

    New Radio from Ranger

I looked at this on Walcott and it has button for GNF. ? It's a "Gabble Noise Filter" wtf is that? According to the definition of Gabble: "talk rapidly and unintelligibly; utter meaningless sounds" So does flipping this GNF on channel 6 allow one to finally understand what these guys are...

    Winter is coming!!!

Last night was rough. Temp dropped to 16F with 40mph winds. Worked til 11 pm outside getting the lights back on. Of course the winds took down a tree in an easement (not truck accessible). Was in my hooks on poles for a few hours. Happy to get home to a hot shower and warm bed. It's dropping to...

WATCHING THE DX SHIFT AS THE SUN MOVES EAST TO WEST

I remember occasional late night openings to the east coast sometimes lasting to 2am or later. That was last cycle. This cycle I haven't heard any...unless I missed them while sleeping?

    New Starduster Antenna

I have never run a sirio base station antenna though I've had great luck with the P5000 mobile antenna. Works well and fine build quality. I have run several A99s and Imax through the years with great success. I currently run a 20 yr old Imax at 40ft to feed. For what it is.. great. Future...

    New Starduster Antenna

If it arrived missing parts and bent wouldn't this be more of a distributor issue than a Sirio issue. Unless you ordered it directly from Sirio (don't think you can)? Whoever sold it to you should have caught the missing hardware and packaged it better to prevent damage.. Many members on here...

    Another new(?) Ranger

I have a 5054 100 watt version as well. It's not my "go to" 6 meter radio because my Kenwood has a much cleaner receiver (as to be expected). I've made several contacts on the 5054 and it seems to work fine. Had a group of locals on SSB one night and one asked which radio I was running on 6? I...

Mobile swr went from 2.0 to 1.0 with ice on car

The washer and/or saw blade goes on the Underside of the roof mount. This way you will most likely destroy your antenna before pulling your mount through a flimsy roof and splitting the roof metal. After dropping the headliner and drilling a hole I would take a wire brush and/or sand paper to...

Mobile swr went from 2.0 to 1.0 with ice on car

I have installed a few perm mounts in roofs and ball mounts in quarter panels back in the day. I ran into the flimsy roof issue as well. This was sloved with a large washer on the underside of the roof and in one case we actually used a circular saw blade & washer to distribute flexing strain...

Mobile swr went from 2.0 to 1.0 with ice on car

I'm trying to understand this.. you have a mag mount but drilled a hole in the roof for the coax? If drilling your vehicle is of no concern why not ditch the mag mount entirely. Nothing against "Tram" but if it were me I would run a quality permanent mount..(breedlove, sirio, daimond/comet)...

    Small heat sinks on pills

My old TS Killer Bee sits under my truck seat upside-down. To have the heat sink facing up as opposed to into the carpeted floor is a no brainer... I run SSB 95% and don't drive the piss out of it so heat probably wouldn't be an issue anyway. I have gotten good at knowing what does what...
