No it's not. That was so, if the radio was used as a mobile with a positive ground, it would function properly. If used solely as a base, the board and the chassis ground can be connected together.
All that's true to a point, but that won't always get people good jobs that pay well with good benefits. In my 43-year career, I worked for three corporations that were always designing and building equipment with the latest technology available to be competitive and stay at the top in their...
Nothing wrong with N.O.S. It's new old stock. Or new original stock. Some don't understand what it is and will call it N.O.S. even though it's not. Many Chinese sellers will call it N.O.S. so beware! Items such as transistors, ICs, diodes, transformers, chokes, non-carbon composition resistors...
The words tech and engineer get thrown around on these internet groups all the time. It seems like anyone that does anything to a piece of electronics is suddenly an engineer or tech. Real techs and engineers have a paper to prove they are educated and trained in electronics, just like in any...
AM transmit frequency is adjusted in AM mode. Try using this. The SAMS book states to connect a frequency counter to the antenna jack with radio on channel 1 AM transmit and adjust VR9 to 26.965 MHz. Makes sense right? If I remember correctly, the AM crystal only sets the AM receive. The USB...
I'm not tramdr, I'm tramd. I've used that "handle" for almost 30 years out here on the internet. tramdr came along much later. He used to be the Undertaker, not to be confused with the Undertaker here on this site. People always think I'm him, or he is me. I actually don't live far from you...
There are two different boards for the D201A 40 channel radio. They both are marked 17029-A. The early one has L203 on the far right-hand side of it. The second version doesn't have L203, but has a transistor with some caps and resistor changes. Also, 14.4 VDC was added to pin 2 of the chassis...
The D300 has the Uniden single conversion PC-385 board like the Cobra 140GTL/142GTL, Uniden Washington, Realistic TRC490/TRC450, Robyn SB505D and a few other brands. The Cobra 2000,148GTL, newer President and Uniden Grants, and newer Madison have the Uniden dual conversion PC-497 board.
Here are the schematics for versions A, C1, C2, D, E, and H. The version is on the paper tag on the back of the radio. It will read 223 then the letter of the version like in the pic below.
Here is the schematic you need. The potentiometer that you are missing (R69) is part of the ALC circuit that the 1974 and later transmitters had. Also, the instructions you need are here on this site under:

Here's a video on where to find the gears. I've done this a few times. The only thing I had to do was to open up the hole just a little in the one gear so it would slide over the shaft. I bought the timers from eBay for about $8.00 each.
