I have no words for this!!!!!! This guy builds amps for a living and thinks Biasing does not work and it all sounds the same. I bet he does not have a simple china scope to see what happens with an RF signal.
I have had a few of those. Neat little rigs. The CB guys didnt like them because it only did Upper Side band and CW so not many got molested by the golden screwdriver tech.
That depends, I have seen anywhere from 850-ish to 1250 on the output transformer for Toshiba amps. Both my FB HG amps have 1000 on the output transformer, even my old Twelve pack re pilled to DEI seem happy with the 1000 as well. Different transformers and wire wraps will change the tune some...
I have seen people do this with amp boards. They dont realize they created capacitance when they do that, copper strip with tape/glue holding it to the copper main board.
I have pretty much read everything w8ji has written about antennas over the years. His info has really helped me with many things radio. His info on the Lazy H antenna really helped with that project, the other info I found on the net was not working as intended, a lot of bad building/specs info...
Here in NE Texas we had about a 1/4 inch of sleet on the decks when I got up, then it stopped the sleeting and the rain started, this is not good as I can see it freezing to my lines coming from the power pole at the street. It need to go back to sleet in a hurry!!!!!
Liking all the relies here. All good info for those that did not do this with their vertical.
I use an isolation balun/choke/transformer (whatever your terminology is) on all my verticals. Never isolated my Imax from the mast, only the Maco has that. Perhaps I should give it a go for the Imax...
I use variable caps to test and get the tune right then I put in fixed components. I repair a lot of stuff for the locals and what I buy thats broken. Never built one from scratch but I have rebuilt many that were in bad shape and had mismatched everything. I did buy a 8 pill box kit from ICA to...
I feared the old black mold looking stuff or whatever it was would not be appealing to most. I didnt even want to touch it, lol. I sell new transmission speedometer gears on eBay, Amazon, and my sites. I was not sure how professional it would have looked to have that crusty stuff advertised for...
I knew I was going to get bashed a little for that. I looked on eBay and they were going for 100-200 with a ton of games and accessories. Didnt seem worth the hassle seeing its not been hooked up since about 1987 or so, not even sure if it would work anymore. Sat in a Damp Michigan basement...
I am NE Texas, look like its going to be rough for a lot of areas. My wire loop antenna should be OK, the balun for it is under the roof of the lean-to, its fed with 600 ohm so hopefully all will be good. It has a drip loop as well on the ladder line as it goes under the roof.
Commodore, thats funny. A month or so ago I was going through some old boxes and found my vintage VIC 20 with the tape datasette and other accessories. I thought I might try and hook it up again but just put in the garbage can and rolled it to the street a couple days later.
Not many give up that tightly held secrete!!!!!!! Transformers for input and output, Cap values, number of turns on the transformers, plus other little tricks.
