Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

I agree with you. I have both and they work near identical as far as I can tell from reports I get. I also heard all the bad talk about them so I stayed away from the Imax, didnt get one until early 2006 when I ordered my Maco Shooting star from copper. Never ran one without a GPK. My brother...

    Texas Ranger base

I look at the cb type radio prices and just cringe, you can get a Yaesu FT891 for $650 and do the mod yourself to be on cb. Like you say the Anytone seems to be a Solid rig, I have the AT6666Pro and am very impressed with it, so much I bought another to put in truck. Its not a full on Ham Rig...

    How about it?

I am there with you, I am in the NE Texas Bayou, its going to be in the teens-twenties Friday evening through Tuesday with the low Sunday being 6 degrees as the forecast states right now. I am from Michigan so the cold does not bother me but the area here is not equipped to handle this type of...

Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

I have the Maco isolated from the pipe with a 6 foot section of fiber glass mast that I robbed from my 2 meter quad build when I took it down. I have never tried that with the Imax, its mounted to a galvanized pipe. I have seen all the models on the Imax and such and even see it on my smith...

    Best power Mic for AT-6666?

Also, please note I tried a 48V phantom voltage mic like used on the Icom and it sucked compared to the stock mic with the 1/8" hole drilled and the mic wind screen. The 48V phantom mic setup would not drive it hard at all and I had to overcome the terrible noise it made through the talk back...

    Best power Mic for AT-6666?

I did this same thing but went a step farther and added wind screens for cell phone mics off of Amazon. This made a huge difference and the wind screens stopped the puff pops from my breath...

    nanoVNA - first scan, IMAX2000

I have great luck with my Imax 2000, it has the ground plane kit and balun at the feed point. Also makes a great vertical for 15 meter too.

Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

Seen a thread today about NANO VNA testing an IMAX and almost posted there but decided to make a new one seeing it does not involve the NANO VNA. This is the post https://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/nanovna-first-scan-imax2000.270855/ I have both the Imax 2000 and a Maco 5/8. The Imax has a...

80m horz delta mod modeling request

I have never tied the reflector to a delta but I have built a reflector about 5% longer and placed it 1/10th to 1/20th wavelength away. I guess you could make it the same size and feed each loop with either side of the ladder line. You would have double the wire so it makes sense.

    Dc Grounded antenna question

It helps with noise. For a test use a 100k Ohm 5W across the feed point and see what happens. You could also put ferrite around the coax as well to provide a path to ground/shield. A capacitor in series with an inductor can help as well. Also, be sure this noise is not from your home and getting...

    Yaesu 2100b question

You adjust it for the best input SWR for your set-up, Everyone's is going to be different, be sure you are adjusting the 10 meter slug/coil. Watch your SWR as you turn it with a noninductive tool. Start from the slug set in the middle if you are not sure where to start.

    Non SDR Radio...

Yaesu FT991A is non-sdr. Its hard for me to go back to non-sdr. I liked the FTDX101MP so much in the radio shack that I bought another for the work shop where I had a FT991A.

Base New Vertical base antenna suggestions

You are correct there, I love my 572' loop, its fed with 600 ohm ladder line, tunes 160-6 meter with just the radio tuner. This thing is a monster on 10-15 meter, horizontal of coarse. I have many acres littered with wire in the air, LOL, no HOA out here in the TX Bayou. Thinking about making a...

    SARK 100 issue

I have two of these that I have gotten in some swap-trades. I have one that uses the 18650 battery and the other uses 8 AA batteries. A couple times I have plugged the AA battery unit into the charge by mistake and the screen goes crazy like yours. To fix it I found out if I take the batteries...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Its a good worldwide guide but its not perfect as I have learned over time. Trans-Equatorial Propagation can be really good even when the solar info says otherwise. Many times 15 meter does this as well, even better then 10 meter.
