The first test was to far off, tuned at 29.7. It was just a quick and dirty test, I just poked 6 gauge though some boxes and grounded it to the tin roof. Now I am directly in the Texas sun so I called it quits until Friday when I have free morning time. Anyway, its a working antenna as far as...
Glad to read you are going for your ticket!!!! Once you pass the tech take the general even if you dont think you are ready, if you pass those two take the extra as well.
I am going to build this, perhaps today even as I dont feel like working on this HG box right now. I have a 32x20 lean-to with a metal roof that connects to my Radio shack.
It was the late 70's must have been about 7-8 years old, my Dad got a Lafayette Telsat 924 23 channel base station with ground plane on the chimney. When my Dad and Mom went out I was not supposed to talk on it but I always convinced the babysitter to let me. Someone local always busted me out...
I normally start with 560pf on the input transformer and 1000-1150pf on the output transformer. Output tune caps 140pf-150pf input tune caps 120pf-ish. Variable caps really help with this then install fixed after you get the tune right. 10 and 100 ohm resistors stay the same as do the 120pf...
I really like the 160M band!!! You really have to be pretty dedicated if you want to talk there due to the antenna length issue. I use a multiband 572 foot loop fed with 600 ohm up at 50-70 feet.
Hello,
I have searched and cannot find a receive mod for the 2970N4. If its there I dont find it. I had one years ago and sold it but I dont remember the receive being so bad, its not even close to my AT quad 6. Is there any mods out there????? Also it has some blacked out 2sc2879's and the...
Really enjoyed reading this post. Lots of great info given to help you get this buttoned up. I am a DIY guy too. I love to get junk amps for cheap and work on them every now and then. I have learned a lot from this tinkering since the late 80's in my high school days. I am still not a pro...
Nice set-up!!!! For the money that rat shack meter works really good and it covers a lot of power. The SWR is on the money with my MFJ. I got a second one because of its size to mount permanent in my mobile. The meter is a little small but it works well.
The Imax 2000 and the Antron 99 are a breeze to set-up. If looking for a hassel free setup it would be one of these. They do not require any measuring at all, all the parts screw together, and are easy to get a low SWR reading. The Imax is the better of the two but will cost just a bit more. I...
Is this the same Doc from CB radio talk???? Thanks for the info Sir. I have a coil of 3/8 copper tube but will be using #10 copper wire for the final build. This weekend I am going to be making my coil out of #10 copper wire. The 3/8 tube is much larger so I cant really copy it for number of...
I have the newer 2995DX and LOVE it!!!! Receive is top shelf to. I got mine in like new condition for $425.00 to my door less the mic. At that price I could not turn it down. The memory and the scan memory are way KEWL as well.

Thats a real nice build. I am working on an open air coil type. Very similar to yours. Does anyone have any open air coil experiences? I am going the copper material way once I get all the little bugs worked out. This way I can sweat every joint and solder every connection. The price on this...
