Fantastic conditions today! Worked Ireland on FM this morning with 120 watts, followed by a dozen or more stations all over the US plus Jamaica. Now there's lots of exotic stuff coming in from the Pacific ring..... Indonesia, Japan, Phillipines, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Taiwan...

You definately need to replace that missing screw on the one transistor there because that transistor will run hotter than the other with one screw missing like that as it is no longer making a flush contact with the heatsink. I would replace the scorched resistors behind the power level...

Another rehashed pig with lipstick from Ranger. They seem incapable of an original thought when it comes to radio design. They are stuck in the 1990's while companies like Qixiang are firmly rooted in the year 2025.

Wouldn't surprise me. Ranger has a terrible track record of quality control issues.

That's weird. 26805 is Band C channel 23 on pretty much all export radios. On some radios you need to use the +10KHz switch to get to those missing channels. I use MEM1 on my 5555N2 as a VFO and navigate my way around the band that way. I never ever use channel mode.

My homemade delta loop way outperforms ALL my commercially made verticals on DX and it cost almost nothing to make. Way more fun building your own antennas!

That is an RJ-45 which is used for ethernet, it is NOT a telephone plug. That is the standard now for nearly all VHF and ham mobile gear too. I usually use the stock mic on my 5555N2. I do sometimes like to run my Turner CS-1 desk mic on it though, so I made an adapter using an ethernet cable...

I always put performance ahead of looks........ but to each their own I guess. I want my radio to be the best it can be, regardless of how it "looks". To me, this is a hobby where technology and communication are key, not the form factor of the radio.

I don't rely on the notifications. I keep ebay open in a browser tab and every single time I'm anywhere near the computer (which is a lot as I use it for work) I'll do an ebay search for whatever I'm looking for. If I'm working on the computer I'll do it as often as once an hour. Way better...
