I have always had good luck with ham-sticks. Before I went with the screwdriver I ran a 20 meter ham-stick with an LDG tuner for the other bands. It worked well and I was happy with it.

There are two vfos but they are linked so you really can't do what you are looking to do.

That is so true; the market will no longer warrant the R&D cost of producing new radios. Comet makes very good antennas but as with all Japanese mfg's the gain figures are inflated.
