    Fear of the Mic Gain!!!

Gain as low as it can be, close talk the microphone, and do not mumble. That is what needs to be done to maintain the best signal/noise ratio of ANY microphone. I could not care less if I can hear the other guys dog barking in the yard or his doorbell ring. In fact, when I hear that shit, I...

Agreed about the ice, except the reference to a beam. I have never had ice prevent my rotator from swinging the antennas. Rotator used was a CD-45 so not a real big one. I doubt my next rotator will have ANY issues either. With ANY luck my antenna system will be COMPLETELY gone over this summer...

    6 Meters is OPEN

I have a theory why the images above are as they are, but I may offend a few people. Then again that has never stopped me before so here goes...........I think it is because of the new generation wanting to get maximum returns for minimal input. Why spend time and effort trying to contact a...

    Frequency shifted ???

That would be my thought as well. I actually owned a Cardon Iroquois 40 many years ago. It was made by Midland and is identical to a Colt Black Shadow. It was a GREAT radio but with the PLL set up as it was it would not go below channel 1 without a crystal change out.

    6 Meters is OPEN

That reminds me of another project. I still have to put that Larcan amplifier together into a working package. The server power supply for it works great. 50 volts at 60 amps. The amp itself works great and has had some experimental upgrades to the input and output sections to increase the...

    EZNEC help please

I need to take my 64 foot Trylon T-500 down and convert it to a tilt over base. No small feat. The bottom section is 42 inches wide and total weight is just over 1000 pounds without anything on it. Add at least another 200 pounds for the mast and antennas.

    EZNEC help please

Actually Gary, I haven't used that antenna for a number of years now but it had a great pattern. I could listen to a baby monitor on 49.830 MHz up the road at S9+20 on the front and it would drop to S2-3 on the rear corner. It has a really good pattern for rejecting the rejects.I hope to get it...

    Presidents " new" private channels.

That looks just like the first cell phone I had......a Motorola bag-phone it was called. It was a company phone and yes, it sure made life on the road easier. I carried a pager for years and being in a rural area we were a bit behind when it came to a roll-out of the cellular network. When I...

    Presidents " new" private channels.

And that reason is mostly due to having a built-in camera. We have a "NO CELL PHONES ON THE PLANT FLOOR" policy for employees and a "NO CELL PHONES PERMITTED IN THE PLANT" policy for any visitors due to intellectual property protection at work.

Looks like you have it dialed in perfectly. I used a hairpin match on my 6m yagi as well. I used a halfway coaxial balun along with it and the match was similar to what you show. My configuration is six elements on a 17 foot boom but it an OWA design...... Optimal Wideband Array......so it just...

Using conduit hangers as vent pipe antenna mounts: warning!

People all too often grossly underestimate the force of the wind as well as running water. I cannot count the number of times I just cringed when asked, "Is this OK to use to mount my antenna?":X3: I usually scrap the factory mounting plate and make my own. If it came with 1/4 inch...

What you think is an emergency may not.....

It's not just the idiots on the radio we have to contend with, it is also the drone operator idiots as well. Water bomber damaged by drone over L.A.

Update on Tim in So Cal

Thanks for the update Jeff. I have no idea what part of the L.A. area Tim is in, but with the way things are at the moment it could be anywhere. The whole area looks bad.

What you think is an emergency may not.....

I have always said that unless life is at stake, you better have your ducks in a row and a full bank account. Just because YOU think something is an emergency does not mean authorities will see it the same way.

    Was gifted well month ago

My problem is that I keep forgetting that other people do not treat things the way I do especially when it comes to ensuring NOTHING happens to it. Most people figure WTF a little scratch won't hurt anything. It will still perform fine. I figure that if I can own something for 20 years and it...

    Questions for 6m veterans

Many years ago I dabbled a bit with RTTY and SSTV and a bit of PSK but just to say I did it. I will ALWAYS resort to SSB as it is more personal. As for FT-8...........I want to talk to someone, not have my computer talk to someone else's computer.
