    Midland LMR VHF information?

Slim... did you ever get an answer to your question about the Midland radio? I missed this question until now. The 70-0375 is a low band radio, capable of frequencies between 30-50 mhz, and can be retuned for the 10 meter or 6 meter band. There is a letter that follows the model number...

    choice of transciever

As you probably know, the Alinco covers HF & 6 meters. The Icom 706 MKIIG does HF, 6m, 2m and 70cm. More band coverage but more money. Do you need the additional coverage? You might check this site out IC706 vs DX70

'Kramer' Spews Racial Slurs at Hecklers

Nope, it's not an equal playing field for sure. Keep in mind that our civil laws and our judiciary system have become defenders of minority groups and that as a heterosexual christian caucasion, there are no laws to protect you from harassment or bigotry, or pertaining to your sexual...

    RCi???

The RCI 5054 DX 6 meter radio was different from the Yaesu quad bander because it was an all mode radio, capable of FM, AM, SSB & CW. The Yaesu 8900 was just FM mode which is good for simplex and repeater work, but when 6 meters is open and active, most of the action is on SSB. I had a 5054...

    Who has been here longest?

My CDX member certificate is dated 5/15/02, under my old logon of 2IR473. Although I am not active in the contests since I got my ham license, I do try to say hello if I hear some of you "old timers" in there on Ch. 37. 73

    SUPERSTAR 4900B

There has been a number of posts about the 4900B over the years and the majority of them have advised to stay away from them. I had one and knew a guy that had one as well. Neither of us have them anymore. Nomad is right about incorrect mic wiring. It can destroy the CPU in the radio. This...

    Just for the arguments sake

Weatherman49, MURS is a 5 channel radio service in the VHF portion of the radio spectrum. It has certain limitations that may make it worthless to some people, like the fact that it is limited to 2 watts output. Now, there are some good uses and 2 watts into a good gain antenna can get you...

    Just for the arguments sake

the 10 meter amateur band can be active in one area, and quiet in another. When the band opens up, you can hear a lot of activity, whether it is hams working DX or just the usual local QSOs that are now making it into your receiver. I am about 150 miles away from New York City but I hear an...

48 foot boom??? 225 lbs??? How long are the elements? I am not trying to pee on your parade, but what will something like that yield over a more traditional antenna? Especially on CW? I know it is different strokes for different folks, but I can't imagine an antenna that BIG :shock...

Congratulations Skeeterman ! I think you will find a lot of good stuff on the ham bands, especially if you get your General ticket. As for the freeband, you should get your fix from the other HF bands you will get when you upgrade. I have my General but I still talk you my local...

    UHF Programming HELP!

Not sure where you are, but the offset for UHF is normally 5 mhz. In the case of 453 mhz, your TX freq should be 458 mhz. you mentioned a 10 mhz split which is not a normal split, and at 461 mhz, that would put your TX into the 471 mhz band, which is normally outside of the normal bandwidth...

    10 meters open

Do you have 10 meter FM capability? I hear the New York 10m repeater almost all the time on 29.620. They have a PL of 146.2 hz. That repeater is used a lot in the NYC area and ops from all over the country come when there is an opening. Give it a listen.

    Opinion of ARRL

I have said before that the ARRL is much like the NRA. It is a lobby group for a group of people that share a common interest, yet is far too political to serve the common interest of those it represents. That doesn't mean that one shouldn't join, but don't expect the ARRL to do what you...

KC2OST wrote: Uh, I would challenge the validity of that statement. If you have a current restraining order, typically you are required to turn over all weapons. This is done to protect the alleged victim. They are usually returned if and when the order expires. You don't have "a right"...

Technician class license is the only license not requiring a code exam. You get frequency privileges from 50 mhz on up.
