    The Mocats

I have a Motorola SSB mobile. I would rather have a Uniden, Hitachi or Cybernet. Overengineered, cheesy, kind of a pain to work on, like most things Motorola. Nothing great about them.

In case you're wondering if you should remove the glue...

I bought 5 of these, from a seller that was supposed to be in the US, from eBay. I received 5 remarked fakes from China. This was April 2021. I have to wonder where they would be getting legit chips from.

    Bearcat 980SSB "PLL Porn"

Mark was on here too at some point. He seems to have fallen off the edge of the planet, when his buddy Mike (Mike's radio repair) also vanished.

    Galaxy 350 amplifier

A little hard to tell the lass, but I think I see a simple clamping diode AB arrangement. It's that, or a class C based on the 220uH choke is see next to the input xfmr. Typical standard CB radio drive levels. Yes on 10m. It has real Toshiba 2879's, so the price is worth it.

Help with Bajoie BJ-300 Chinese amplifier

It never ceases to amaze me, how these companies throw things together, to make a buck. The power transistors in your amp, are not designed to operate in the frequency range, you would like. They are UHF parts, for the Motorola UHF radios, in the 450-512 MHz range. I can't recall if it is...

Stock mic wiring for a Lafayette HB23 mobile radio

I think if you take a photo of the microphone with the back off I could probably figure it out visually.

Stock mic wiring for a Lafayette HB23 mobile radio

I looked at a schematic. Unfortunately, that info is not given. You will need to either copy it from another microphone, or use an ohm meter and figure it out.

Been away and ready to get up and running.

No way to know by the photo, other than it is someone's modification. If you take a photo of inside, that may shed some light on what it is doing.

Gray 150(A) or 100A or Lookalike AM LED

The last photos of the Pride and the Gray, were to show that the Gray is pretty much a clone of the Pride. The ONLY difference between the two, is the input attenuator and the front panel switches. The main and daughter PCB's are almost exactly the same.

Gray 150(A) or 100A or Lookalike AM LED

It has a bunch of yellow wires that are not teflon, but not in a rats nest like the one you show. If you look at the AM LED in your photo, you can see it is tied to the pre-amp switch. I think this is how they did it, half assed. I am going to re-purpose the AM LED as a TX indicator, rather than...

Gray 150(A) or 100A or Lookalike AM LED

Anyone have a Gray 150 type amp with plastic switches? PCB says g-100A, pair of MRF455, class C. I am trying to determine, if the amp was built with the AM LED always on. It appears that it may be some kind of cost cutting thing, as the SSB delay switch, is SPST. The Gray 150's I have seen that...

Why are Bird meters all the rage?

When I first discovered a "digital" meter, a Palomar Engineers M-827, I realized, that the speed of a Bird 43 was just not accurate for CW, AM or SSB. The LED bargraph, was so much faster, you could see what power levels were really being attained. I then graduated to a M-835, then to the RF...

    WHATS THE POINT re, QT40

The conversion is not in software. The CPS, makes it easier to do some of the functions, like memory channels, CTCSS/DCS, offsets and such. Also, easier to set the radio up with the CPS, as opposed to the function menu. All of the fucntions/options are right there, in front of you, without...
