Boy you hit the nail on the head there. I'm no expert by any means but we have several General class guys and a couple Extras around me that blow me away. The lack of common sense radio knowledge is sad at times.

Remembering the lives lost and Heros of 9-11-2001

My heart truly break for all those devastated by the "events" of 9/11. I pray that this many years later people will still push for truth regarding these horrific crimes. I don't want to open up a BIG can of worms but I encourage those that just know deep down that the official story just...

8ft Grounding rod: copper or galvanized

Grounding is essential. It's really not an option in my opinion. But as mentioned earlier it must be done correctly. Keep all connections clean and as short as possible. All grounds MUST be at equal potential (bonded together).

8ft Grounding rod: copper or galvanized

It's sarcasm. The within the ( ) in captains reply is why NOT to do it that way.

8ft Grounding rod: copper or galvanized

I used 2 solid copper wire off each leg of my tower to its own 8 ft copper clad rod. Kept each ground as short as possible. At work we coil 2 solid put it under the butt of the pole. Throw about 6 inches of dirt on top.. it then runs up the pole hole to about 18 inches above grade. We then...

    very happy day today

Congrats. Correct me if I'm wrong... I didn't think tech + was a license class anymore? I looked your call up on QRZ and it has you as a Tech issued 5/9/23. I was under the impression the next step up would be General then Extra. Only 3 classes of licenses now?? Am I missing something?

    15m is not very quiet?

When I still had my HF beam up I worked the world on 15 and 17. 17 had some real diehards that met regularly to rag chew..mostly guys in the western US if I recall. 12 meters always seemed to be a way under used piece of spectrum to me...

Adding a receive preamp to dave made 1x4?

I have never seen the need for a preamp under 50 mhz. . Every 11 meter preamp just seems to boost noise along with the signal giving no benefit to the operator. My .02 Your mileage may vary
