Neat looking radio, shame it doesn't have SSB. Kind of looks like the new George/ Washington chassis.

The main reason to lower the carrier is to run an amplifier that isn't linear. A radio that does 10 watts carrier and 40 watts peak might end up doing a 200 watt carrier and swing to 300 watts out of the amp. And sometimes when running a driver amp into a bigger amp, the carrier can't be lowered...
