Answering my own question after digging into it more... there has to be a firewire card to connect to, so I am guessing a dock might work. Link to amazon is not working. :/
Just wondering if anyone here knows if an Apple adapter like this will work with the Flex 3000/5000?

They made some great stuff, and the specs are impressive on that receiver. But, for that kind of money, getting a used rig from a company that has not done amateur gear since 2002 (support?), I would either look at an hf rig with general coverage, or a higher end dsp. But that's just me. If...
I have used the A99 in a tree with very good success. Tip was probably at about 30 feet. Used a dipole about 8 feet off the ground with decent success, too.

I run a Tecsun PL-660 for portable, mostly hf ssb reception, and it works quite well. You might take a look at the SDR Play Rsp-1a and Rsp-2. You can catch the 1a for 99 bucks on sale from time to time at HRO, and its performance is pretty impressive, with filtering built in. Rsp-2 has...
Pretty normal, I'd say. I remember as a kid when I had a Taylor Grand Slammer, and we had freezing rain in Wichita Falls. Some of the ice broke off on the vertical radiator, but the base/coil and horizontal ground planes were pretty thick with ice. I think I hit about a 2.5:1 SWR, but my...
I bought this gizmo off of Amazon, and it's pretty darned nice. Comes with Anderson power pole "type" connectors, too. Might be an option for your shack.

I run LOG4OM as a free logging program. It has spots, too. Omni-rig to link to my rig, and it is free. SDR-Console 3 as a panadapter via my RSP-1, and it is free. VOA Prop as a predictor, and it is free. Chirp to program my HT's, and it is free. See a trend here? ;)
Since you are running...
I had one where the pots were reversed. So full clockwise was lowest setting, and fully counterclockwise was highest. So thinking I had a squeal that I needed to turn it down, I was actually making it worse.

I do both when I travel. Sometimes the noise level in whatever hotel I am staying in is low enough to use a wire, other times I just use the built in antenna.

I read the 891 has different CAT commands than the rest of the line. Seems like Omni-rig would have added it already though. Will have to check this software out. Thanks for the link!

I get the wrong terminology, but those things do look a lot like a big honkin' capacitor. Supposed to be great high Q antennas, but man are they Texas large.

I have been running a 102" for a couple of years now. Recently let my neighbor drive my pickup truck, and he told me he had never noticed the antenna until he drove my truck!
