One fella that might be able to help you out... on YouTube, look up Mr. Carlson's Lab. I think that guy has fixed every radio out there.

I didn't see any responses, so thought I'd at least recognize your post. That looks like a very cool old short wave receiver, and since it has SSB is even cooler. No idea on your issues... sorry!
I have bought several inexpensive SSB/SW receivers in the last few years, including Tecsun...
Kenwood TS-590SG is still available new, and so is the Icom IC-718. Neither one is SDR.
On edit: I forgot to mention that the Kenwood is great for people that are blind. It has an add on VSG-1 (voice guide system) module that announces many of the key presses, frequency, S meter reading...
I totally get liking the old rigs... I have a Cobra 2000, 139XLR, and a Kenwood TS-830 and 520. Fortunately they all work! The new rig has quite a bit of double featured knobs, but pretty easy to get figured out once you have played with it a bit. If he's strictly playing on 11 meters, that...
Finally got around to putting a watt meter on this radio, which is a Goozeegoo ATU-100 tuner with built in watt meter.
I am seeing 47-50 watts FM, AM 20 watts max output setting, swinging to 68-70, 100-120 watts max output on SSB. This is running on my 20Ah 12.8 volt Eco-Worthy LiFePO4...
I came across a clean Kenwood TS-430S once that was locked to 11 meters. I passed on it, but remembered thinking... why? As you have seen over the years, people do some weird mods. Hope you get yours figured out, they are pretty great rigs.

Mine doesn't hear on sideband anymore. :( Is there a link available for the service bulletin? All I find is the service manual and operator manual online.

Hey gang! I recently won the Radioddity QT-80 right here on the Worldwidedx.com Radio Forum!
I received the rig today, and was able to power it up in my go-box. This looks to be a very capable multi-band rig with a ton of features, and I'm looking forward to getting on the air with it soon...
I have a Grant XL I wouldn't mind doing this with. Can you tell me what all is involved? I have two rigs, one with and one without a Digiscan.
