What he's talking about is changing the values of certain capacitors in the audio chain to widen the response. LC

Can confirm. I bought a plug from them recently and was hit with multiple attempts of someone trying to purchase gift cards on my account. had to replace that card. LC

Can we talk about the Cherokee cbs500 and 1k swing mod?

I thought i recognized that model of realistic. Here's a thread i made a long long time ago when i was working on one of these for someone. Its about all the info you're going to find on it. https://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/realistic-trc-495-tune-up-info-trc495.120515/ the thread doesn't...

Cobra 2000 frequency counter diode equivalent?

I can confirm that the 1N4734A works just fine in this application. I do this to all the 2000s that come through here. That said, ive never put one in to correct a problem, just cheap insurance. LC

    575-m6 help

check the slide potentiometer with an analog meter. digital meters are terrible at diagnosing flaky pots, while an analog meter will tell you pretty much instantly whether or not the change in resistance is smooth across the range or not. also, just spraying contact cleaner in these and moving...

"Ye Olde 858 Restoration and Mods". A historical CBTricks forum post from November 2012.

I've still got a bunch of info from that thread because it was my madison Sue was helping with. She guided me through programming an atmel chip and provided schematics for the freq display as well as a bunch of other advice. however, that info is buried under years of other things and was...

    Artificial Intelligence

Quoting you here TM007: "I don't however, agree that anyone can prompt AI proficiently as the subject or the question could be anything from how to bake a simple bread to how do I build and control the output of DC power supply or some such. As such to get something reliable from the AI you...

    Artificial Intelligence

TM007, I get what you are saying, but if your post was written in response to mine, then i think you might have missed my point. What you did was use the fact that you already have all of this info to guide the AI into only looking in places where you, the asker of the question, already know...

    Artificial Intelligence

We in the CB radio hobby have a very unique ability to see how well AI actually understands what we are asking it and when it just regurgitates what is already available online. This is because of CB myths!!! They finally are useful!!! we are all well aware that as soon as you apply the laws...

Cobra 138XLR the other shoe drops. Carrier crystal fix.

what's the stability like with these progrock things? Im guessing much better than an old chunck of quartz? This is a very helpful thread, and will be more helpful as time goes on. I hope the future searchers realize what a gift this is. very cool. LC

    Cobra 138XLR gets recapped.

excellent explanation. looks like the 138XLR you have there has the D21/D22 mod where they lift one side of the diodes and put a 4.7K resistor in the two holes left over. for those that don't know, this bypasses the speech compressor that this chassis is so famous for. With Nomad's mod that...

How to clean and old Air Variable Cap?

i can't speak from experience but i tend to trust what Nomad Radio says, and i just read a thread where he used Air Conditioning coil cleaner on a variable capacitor. It would be best to consult him before trying it IMO. LC

Radio Captcha ideas to beat AI

this is a tough one because pretty much any question that someone or some thing could not just look up on google AI would alienate anyone who was new to CB radio.

    Cobra 2000gtl Unmod and Repair

the yellow wire is most likely gone because someone volted the final. this used to be a popular mod and it applies the full 13.8 volts to the final in AM mode. It was done because it could squeeze a few more watts out of the radio, but it came with costs, and imo is just not a good mod. here...

    Cobra 142 GTL Modulation Adjust

Remove R105 which connects to the base of TR33. replace it with a 1N4148 diode and a 5K trimmer pot in series. unbanded end of the diode goes to the base of TR33, and banded end connects to the trimmer pot. other side of trimmer pot goes to ground. I like to wire the pot like a rheostat which...

    CB Re-caping

no need to mod these philomath, they are great with just a good alignment. my message was for MKwrench who might want to try this mod out. LC

    CB Re-caping

MKwrench, those are all good changes, but there is a better mod for the audio. try changing the value of R228 to 1.2K and then adding a 1uf non polarized cap from pin 9 of the audio chip to the junction of R194/R228/D36. Leave the limiter intact and on the versions that have a fixed value...
