I hope you all don't mind... but it kind of IS another part of this "CB world" we are in......
So far I have:
JC Penney 6247
- No RX or TX.... AM/USB/LSB none of the above.
Not with internal OR external speaker
DO...
I am just going through a bunch of my acquired radios to catalog the various illnesses that they may have and one is Johnson 123A.
What I ran in to is certainly not a show stopper...
For power, on the rear there is a little red plastic fitting that appears to hold a male spade lug... inset a...
... I promise I will shut up after this!!!!!
I put two radios on here tonight for giggles. A really nasty looking 40 channel Cobra 29 (not GTL or LTD... just.... 29) and a 23 channel Cobra 21. This pic has the 21 on at the time.
RCV test works fine. The pic is TX test and the Bird, the SA...
My bench had always been shared in duty as my "work at home" spot as well. It had stuff all over it to do with "work".... other stuff I just never had a plave for.... it was a mess. The test equipment was all over the place and NOT laid out well for.... frankly.... ANYTHING.
The 26th of...
Just looking at the SAMS CB Photofacts and I see that the Cobra 21 and 25 are in the same volume.
So if the same SAMS copy covers both radios.... how do you know what the differences are? Surely a 21 is not identical to a 25 or everybody would have saved money and gotten a 21. I did see...
I imagine most may already have a way that works for them but I am just thinking of newer folks trying to build up some test equipment on a budget.
This might help some on their benches with setting driver/final bias. Surely you can do it with a DMM but some might consider this to be...
(just a "story".... not a "cry for help". I am having fun!!!)
Well... since my layoff has led to my retirement I have decided to quit "eyeballing" that Console V way up on the top shelf.
I actually recapped it about 4 years ago or so and just never got " a round tuit " when it came to...
A number of years ago, my "radio loving" son, Tim, snagged a 102" whip ... used ... from a friend of his... with ME IN MIND.
It was mounted on my truck at the time with a ball mount and always worked really well. Actually did a little DX with it and the Grant XL (that got STOLEN out of that...
Has anybody heard from Handy Handy? I used to see his highly informative posts all the time. The last thing I can track from him is in like March or May of this year.
Just checking out of concern.......
I watched a video this morning on YouTube put up by "Pulsar CB Radio" ...and he says it looks like NTE is gone... down the tubes for good.
Do many here get their parts from NTE???
I'm thinking that is going to hurt.....
I am normally pretty good at searching and I am coming up blank on this one. I have had no trouble finding the Turner JM+2U/M+2U schematics along with plenty of info on the wiring differences between the two regarding relay vs electronic. I also found the Plus 3 desk mic schematic.
But every...
I thought I would try this one. I know it is a Fire Bird. The model is F100/BM. Just by the name only, someone else said it was a 2 tube linear capable of around 300 watts. This thing is small.... plus..... this thing has two transistors in it. I can not find any information about this...
This is the "mystery amp" that came in yesterday's lot purchase. I don't see any "branding" on it... but it looks too "professionally done" to be home brew... but I don't know.
Does anybody recognize this thing???
Bob
late afternoon yesterday, searching for "CB RADIO" on the marketplace... an ad only 16 minutes old popped up showing 2 pictures of a ton of gear (several tubs with mobile radios, antennas, meters) and a small table with several radios on it..... all for $50. I made contact and she said it had...
I was just looking through my local Facebook Marketplace for CB gear....
(right here in my little Deer Park, TX)
Found a guy selling 2 radios...
A Cobra 21 (plain old 23 channel), and
A Cobra 25LTD...
$150 EACH!!!!!!!
I have a question.
As far as the meter goes I took it out and ran it through it's basic paces and it works like it should.
Then I thought about something......
I used a DMM to check continuity between the BLK banana jack and the "safety ground" on the line cord.
TOTALLY OPEN!!!!! No...
Well it came in, and the first thing I did was run self-test... which worked. But I came back the next day and ran...and it failed self test #3 which was a "signal level" issue. After researching... one of the first things suggested by the make is..... put a full charge on it!!!! And it...
I know that they are not a fine lab instrument... but considering that my work is pretty much "hobby level on steroids" I believe it will do fine. I actually have an old 500 MHz Hameg 5006 (w/tracking generator) on the bench. IT is plenty fast as far as scanning. It is just so old that it...
Here is the deal....
One of the two radios I just bought was a Smokey 23 "branded" radio. No tag on the back.... nothing. Possibly just a lower end product that some company threw out there just to "get on the bandwagon" back in the day.
The reason I bought is... a friend has a "Smokey 23"...
