M0OGY just posted this review of the newly released Aquario RP-70 mini SSB/AM/FM radio. I have heard that it is likely to be un-cheap. I've heard US$400 is the probable price point. Considering it is only 7 watt AM/FM and 15 SSB it will need at least a small amp for most folks applications...
It's been going for two days straight right on the international call frequency. Sounds much like an old school over the horizon radar........almost but not quite like the old Russian "woodpecker" that was on shortwave forever.
There are several clues that it is a jammer and not a real radar...
I upgraded the firmware in my 5555N2 the other day, and last night it abruptly died. It just suddenly turned off for no reason. I was able to power it off and back on and it came back to life. Then a few minutes later it went off again. This time it took more than 5 minutes before it would...
Just made contact with 145AT/0 in the Galapagos Islands!
I wasn't even aware of this activation and just happened to hear him calling CQ on 27.610 USB as I was scanning through the band.
First time I've ever heard the 145 division on 11 meters, but I remember way back in the 1980's I would...
Made contact this morning with 65DA/DX, Peter, in Sierra Leone which is on the west coast of Africa. 27.610 USB
Managed to bust through a huge pileup of European stations with only 160 watts and a homemade delta loop antenna.
10,900 km for only my fourth ever contact in Africa!
Anyone know where the two turds are who frequently chat away on 27.383 to intentionally wipe out 38? They've been at it on and off for months now and I've seen mention of them on the forum before......
And what's with the same non-stop hiphop music on 35, 36, & 37 at the same time ? It's...
The magic smoke came out of it the other day while I was talking. Power dropped about 20% and my audio went from crisp to crunchy.
The fix..... It was the diode in the bias circuit for the driver transistor (it's a 1 pill feeding 4 pills design). Diode showed no continuity in either...
A friend has one I may borrow and / or buy. I'm very curious about whether these have A/B bias or if they are just another shitty class C amp ?
Does anybody out there have a definitive answer ? I don't want to spend a ton of money only to have crunchy sound........
Lack of an LPF is no big...
I notice that the "11 meters is very quiet" thread hasn't been seeing as much activity lately, because 11 meters is hopping, and isn't quiet at all !
So I decided to start a new thread that better reflects the current conditions.
Maybe we can get this thread to 527 pages like the old one before...
Some say they did, others say they didn't......

https://watchers.news/2024/02/22/major-network-outages-in-u-s-following-two-x-class-solar-flares/
A long duration solar flare and associated CME happened on January 20 and is expected to have impacts starting tomorrow afternoon Jan. 22
among those impacts mentioned is "Radio – HF (high frequency) radio propagation can fade at higher latitudes".
Also potential impacts to power grids &...
Just found this article .... https://watchers.news/2024/01/19/china-develops-miniature-cost-effective-nuclear-battery-for-civilian-use/
I could see this being a game changer for portable and handheld radio applications. Or even for a base station if they upscale the technology to create a 14...
The sun let out its biggest solar flare in at least seven years yesterday. An astonishing X2.8 monster. Expect radio blackouts this weekend !
story.... https://www.sciencealert.com/the-sun-just-erupted-with-the-most-powerful-solar-flare-in-years
I've been spending quite a bit of time on 26.805 FM lately. Conditions this past weekend were pretty good but I've noticed that A LOT of people using FM mode are over-deviating. That is, they have cranked the audio gain up way to high. Now on AM mode this might make you loud and proud, but on...
The Sun let loose an M9.8 magnitude flare on Nov. 28 and the four Coronal Mass Ejections (CME's) associated with it are due to hit Earth tonight and tomorrow unleashing radio blackouts, internet failures, and hopefully, once in a lifetime auroras....
Story...
Just stumbled on this rather interesting article which says scientist from NOAA got there solar forecast very wrong and it will peak much earlier (this year) and much stronger than expected. Fire up those radios and get talkin'........... conditions might start going downhill as early as next...
I installed a new Anytone 6666 in our vehicle and it works great, but I have it mounted on the dash and the display is WAY too bright at night. In fact it's so bright I have to shut off the radio so I can see the road.
What's weird is there doesn't seem to be any way to dim the display...
So I ordered from Amazon what was advertised as a Wilson K-40 antenna, but what arrived is something called a K30 made by, wait for it, the K40 Antenna Company ! No connection to Wilson whatsoever.
It matches up fine so long as I keep the output power of my 6666 under 15 watts, any more than...
Out here on the West coast of Canada the conditions the last couple weeks have been outstanding ! Some of the best I've ever experienced in almost 40 years on 11 meters. Had contact in the last few days with Greenland, Serbia, Poland, and the Marquesas Islands among other exotic places. All...
