    CPI 2000 issues

Those two wires soldered to pins 1 and 3 are on U600G. As others have stated, it's one of the programmable dividers. It was done for a 5KC mod to get the "A" channels. Here is the SAMS #168 manual for this radio. It's actually for the 400 mobile, but is very similar to the 2000. It's the only...

    CPI 2000 issues

If you replace any of the ICs, solder a socket to the board to insert the IC into. This way, you will never have to do any soldering at those points again if the replacement IC needs to be removed again. This prevents damage to the traces and from over heating of the IC while soldering.

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

In response to your question about C239, there is no cap used in that position on this radio. I think you will find it's not on the schematic or in the parts list.

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

Make sure you resolder all those pass throughs from the top to the bottom sides of the boards, or you may be chasing problems forever.

    Browning mk3 transmitter issues

Here's the Browning manual with alignment procedures. You may want to check voltages at the tubes to make sure they are correct.

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

The best thing to do with that radio is to take the bottom board out. About a dozen screws and four wires to unsolder. That's the board with the large cap that always seems to leak and destroys the traces. It's much easier to work on then, instead of constantly flipping that heavy radio over and...

How can I Tune a stock radio?

You don't tune electronics unless you have a piece such as a radio with a VFO and you are tuning in stations. Cars and musical instruments are tuned. Electronic devices are aligned.

President Dwight D CB Base Station

Here is a video showing the number for the timer to get the gears from. I have done this in the past, and the last timer I bought about 7 years ago cost me $7.95 from eBay. Just remember the clock runs on 120vac, so when the radio is plugged in the clock has 120v to it.

    CLR super penetrator antenna

That's one of the earliest original hy-gain Penetrator 500s from the early 1970s. They had 3 section ground radials that were held to the mounting plate with 2 bolts, and the clamps had a bolt that went through the clamp instead of through the ends of the clamp. The later hy-gains used the later...

External device to play sound clips on a CB radio

It was in 1976 when they came out with a lot of new rules for the 1977 models of CB radios. They let them have 40 channels, but limited output to 4 watts AM, 12 watts PEP for SSB, and only your voice could be transmitted. No roger beeps, music or any "noise toys". That's why Browning couldn't...

    TRC-458, good receive, no transmit

No it's not. That was so, if the radio was used as a mobile with a positive ground, it would function properly. If used solely as a base, the board and the chassis ground can be connected together.

Pitting current techs to old techs...

All that's true to a point, but that won't always get people good jobs that pay well with good benefits. In my 43-year career, I worked for three corporations that were always designing and building equipment with the latest technology available to be competitive and stay at the top in their...

    Midland 13-866 Final/Driver Replacement

Nothing wrong with N.O.S. It's new old stock. Or new original stock. Some don't understand what it is and will call it N.O.S. even though it's not. Many Chinese sellers will call it N.O.S. so beware! Items such as transistors, ICs, diodes, transformers, chokes, non-carbon composition resistors...

Pitting current techs to old techs...

The words tech and engineer get thrown around on these internet groups all the time. It seems like anyone that does anything to a piece of electronics is suddenly an engineer or tech. Real techs and engineers have a paper to prove they are educated and trained in electronics, just like in any...

    "Professional Steering wheel holders"

I got my CDL back in the late 70's and you could operate any transmission. When did they change that rule?

Cobra 139XLR USB will not align...

AM transmit frequency is adjusted in AM mode. Try using this. The SAMS book states to connect a frequency counter to the antenna jack with radio on channel 1 AM transmit and adjust VR9 to 26.965 MHz. Makes sense right? If I remember correctly, the AM crystal only sets the AM receive. The USB...

    Cobra 2000 Frequency Counter Board

I'm not tramdr, I'm tramd. I've used that "handle" for almost 30 years out here on the internet. tramdr came along much later. He used to be the Undertaker, not to be confused with the Undertaker here on this site. People always think I'm him, or he is me. I actually don't live far from you...
