    Yaesu VX-8r Review

Thanks a lot Moleculo. I did find this out about an hour after i posted it. My VX-8R sounded a bit noisy and very loud to CP200 Motorola walkies i was communicating with. It worked out though, as i had nearly no preparation time. thanks again.

VX-8R .. in need of few basic answers

Thanks Moleculo, I got confirmation from Yaesu also that 2181.25KHz is the closest i will get to 2182 with VX-8R. However they believe i should be able to listen to hear 2182KHz as it is close enough. They also confirmed 5W transmition with lithium ion rechargeable battery. If anyone has...

VX-8R .. in need of few basic answers

I see what you mean. You can however get closer if you use 6.25 increment. It gets you to 2181.25khz. I used it plenty of times where 5KHz was not landing on frequency i needed to tune to.

VX-8R .. in need of few basic answers

Hi Tim, If you go to menu 96 STEP FREQUENCY, You can manually set it to these options steps: 100, 50, 25, 20, 15, 12.5, 10, 6.25, 5 KHz or Auto. Yours likely set to auto. none of these will let you type 002185KHz unfortunately. Hopefully someone will post why that is. thanks for posting...

VX-8R .. in need of few basic answers

Not sure what you mean by channel width. Is this a menu setting? As i said, i tried all available options from frequency step menu. do you have similar radio? Can you dial in 002.182 ? Which step freq. choice do you have set? Yes, I am very aware of Tx range of these radios. I did extend my...

    Yaesu VX-8r Review

I agree with above statement! It's a good comparison ( car vs helicopter) My day job also involves advanced technologies (super high speed-high resolution cameras) most of which are still in developmental stages. L6E, You must be the unluckiest VX-8R owner in the world. I personally got...

had a moment today to try both radios set to ear phone as FM antenna. Obviously, when earphones are unplugged while in this setting, radio switches automatically to external antenna (rubber duck) Listening to 97.8FM station on cheap old iPod white Ear-buds gives it full signal (9), while with...

    Good earbud/earpiece for VX-8R/DR?

I found that ipod standard ear buds fit this jack perfectly. Other than general bad sound that comes out of those, it works fine. Most apple product fans who own or owned ipods/iphones have at least one old set sitting at home. I happened to have my wife's set so I use them and i might even...

    Mirage BD-35 question/suggestion needed

Thanks. I take its 1-3/4" thick with heat sink. 1-3/8" as stated on one web page would make sence to be without heat sink then. thanks a lot for quick response. I'm planning place for it in my car, so every centimeter counts. cheers

    Mirage BD-35 question/suggestion needed

I am trying desperately to find true dimensions of this little amp. All i see on one page is 5"x1-3/8"x 5" but I don't know if this includes heat sink or not. Can someone who has one please post true dims. P.S. as in my other thread, I am still looking if anyone can suggest equivalent or...

    Choosing small portable AMP.

back to Radio world after a while... I don't plan on using car rig often, so i don't need mobile radio such as FT7800. I love having wide band Rx option, and none of mobile units do this, so using my VX-8R in combination with small AMP when i need to boost my transmission makes perfect...
