    Question regarding license upgrade

I definitely remember initialing and checking the box. After checking FCC records it turns out it was the ve's that made the error. Everyone make mistakes. Anyway, everything has worked out and I have my new callsign which I'm not to happy with but what the heck I made General and I'm a happy...

    Building antennas

Hi Michael, Just want to spread some encouragement and show you what my first antenna looked like. Found how to make it on YouTube (2m Backpacking Yagi) So far I've hit a repeater 40 miles away sitting in my house with my 5 watt handheld with a signal strength S6. Not to shabby with an antenna...

    Question regarding license upgrade

Update Checked my Status at the Universal Licensing System website and at the moment my Status reads "Canceled". Just hoping that means my original call sign has been changed. :pop: Thank you for the reply Michael

    Question regarding license upgrade

I wasn’t crazy about my callsign and figured I’d give it another whirl before checking out the vanity. And yes I heard they're running kind of thin. Got my fingers crossed and hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. HAHA! Cesar

    Question regarding license upgrade

I think you are talking about what they call the online signature. I was a little confused about "Title" but after reading the description it's optional and not a requirement. Thank you

    Question regarding license upgrade

When I took the exam (upgrading to general) I filled out the papers and checked the box that said I would like a new call sign. I was told by one of the volunteers that they would take care of it. I just received my certificate in the mail and it still has my original callsign. My guess is...

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Thanks, appreciate the info. I'll be testing my radio soon and will also be building a portable yagi that I saw on YouTube (Guy was on Mount St. Helen and hit a repeater 211 miles away using 5 watt HT.) Worth a try I guess. I'll be posting what happens. Thanks again!!

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Looking for 8 miles line of sight. What if one is connected to a Yagi antenna? Think that would work? Sorry if questions are basic but I’m new to the hobby. Thanks

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Thank you for all the replies. I purchased the KG-UV2D 420-520 a couple of days ago and so far it has been what everyone has said it would be “Great little $100 radio”. I’ve got a lot to learn and think this HT radio is perfect for now. I'll step up to bigger and better things later. I was...

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Doc, I'd say yes if I fully understood but I will eventually. So I guess it's better going with the KG-UV1D? cm

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Thank you Doc. Another radio mention in this thread (KG-UV1D) is said to be a professional radio that has the ability to program RX and TX frequencies. I looked up what RX and TX is and figured it has something to do with the commercial industry which I have no interest in. Sorry if this is...

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

The answer is I'm not. No radio no activity. I did find a map that shows repeaters in my area and found most are 440. Looks like that will be my choice unless there is an advantage in 220. Thanks for the reply :)

Which Wouxun KG-UV2D model to buy?

Got my Tech license a few months ago and was looking at the Wouxun KG-UV2D as my first radio. I live just outside of San Francisco and would like opinions on what frequency range model to buy. My main use is communicating with family who live within a 30 mile radius. My wife and son are studying...

    Communicating after a disaster

<You should never make using a repeater part of your emergency communications plan> <Very basically, if someone is okay, they have no business tying up usable radio frequencies.> Sounds like stay off repeaters to me friend. Thanks

    Communicating after a disaster

Captain and Doc, Thank you for the advice! I plan on joining a club so I can get a handle on all this. Last thing I want to do is be part of a problem. I think this has been a great thread so far. I guess the best solution is getting the best equipment we can afford, stay off the repeaters...

    Communicating after a disaster

Had a family meeting tonight and they all decided on getting licensed. Now all we need to do is figure out the equipment. I’m thinking a HT for the wife since she works down town and plans to walk home if transit is down. From her location we have access to a high-level two-meter FM analog...
