No flame suit needed :) I subscribe to the "you get what you pay for" club and it has generally served me well. I was talking to someone a few days before Xmas and could hardly understand him on his new "Made in China" HT :( He sounded pretty frustrated with it also :( I will stick to...
Hey guys,
First of all, hope everyone had a nice Xmas !!
My old trusty Icom 2M HT finally gave it up after 20 years so I am looking for a replacement. A dual band (2M & 440) is not that much more, but I am just not sure if there is a real need for it ? I am just going to get a basic...
Kurt,
I am getting back into HF after a long layoff. I used to have an all band vertical years ago and it worked ok, but needed radials for sure.
Back in August I was trying to figure out what to do for just a temporary setup to work the Lighthouse contest and make a QSO with a...
Not sure what you mean by a "front store" ???
Depending on what fitting you need and how much quality you want, Radio Shack actually has a fairly decent selection if you are in a bind.
Just thought I would post an update. I was trying to get something working so I could make a QSO with a friend of mine during the Lighthouse Weekend event Aug 18-19 After looking around on here and the internet, I decided to try making a double bazooka for 20 meters. I had some RG8 mini so I...
VS,
Dont know where you are located but you cant beat these guys if you are anywhere near by:
JEFA Tech
AT least one of them is a Ham and they have great service. They will also steer you to the correct cable and connectors for what you are doing. They have specs on thier web site. I...
Kevin,
Raw material is not the same thing as tubing :( Take a look at this page and look at the price of round tubing about half way down:
McMaster-Carr
Now granted an antenna manufacturer probably buys enough to get a lot better rpice, but there is a big difference from the raw...
I know this has probably been discussed to death but I would still like to hear some new opinions. If you were setting up a new HF station and had your choice of an all band vertical or some type of long wire / dipole / G5RV etc, which would you choose and why ??? I have heard that wires are...
Hello All
I am having a connection problem with Echolink that has me confused. Two stations cannot connect to me. Hopefully I can present this so that it makes sense.
Station A cannot connect directly to me
Shows as connected on my PC
Shows as connecting on his PC
and then times out on...
Kevin,
The CQ marathon is sort of like that :
http://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_contests/cq_dx_marathon_contest/cq_dx_marathon_contest_rules/2012_cq_dx_marathon_contest_rules.pdf
That being said, I have been a ham since 1970 and have never entered a contest either but was thinking...
I have bought a new radio and this power supply is not big enough for it :( It is a Motorola HPN1007B which is basically an Astron RS10A with a Motorola label on it.
7.5 Amp continuous
10 Amp surge
It works fine and has for the year or so I have had it. This is a heavy, transformer type...
Hey guys,
I am working on an SB220 for a friend and the assembly manual makes reference to a pictorial number 4-14 ? The PDF manuals that are available online seem to skip this pictorial. They show 4-12 and 4-13 but no 4-14. I am pretty sure it is on one of the fold out pages ???
So...
Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes . . . .
I have just started fooling around with echo link, pretty neat !! I have been using my laptop because it has a built in mic but would rather use my desktop. Any suggestions for microphones ? Do the USB ones work ok ...
dd,
This is going to sound crude, but have you tried smacking it a couple of times to see if it starts working ? The symtoms you are describing sound like some type of bad connection, not heat related. If there are any connectors, plug in boards or ic's, I would remove them and reseat them...
cdn,
I think this goes back to the days when a lot of us experimented a lot before actually getting our licenses and also built our own equipment.
BUT . . . . I have to agree with you 100% as I am having a problem trying to figure out something that should be very simple on a radio I...
Hey guys,
Does anyone have an IC207H ? I recently bought one and I must be really dense because I cannot figure out how to program a frequency in directly from the mic keypad. I get the frequency entered but cannot get it "saved" for lack of a better word, on the radio. I am following the...
Hey guys,
I am trying to find a replacement HM-14 mic for my Icom IC3200 and it looks like my only available option is one of these:
J0133A Handheld Speaker Mic for ICOM Radio IC-28 7800 746 718 900 756 3200 7200 | eBay
I am kind of leary because to be honest with you it just seems to...
Thanks for all the relies. I went through my Motorola this weekend and tightened up all of the connections etc and it seems to be working ok for now. I am getting a new rig that will need more power than the 10A I have now so I will probably get another Anstron. Probably the 30.
Thanks again,
FX,
Am I looking at that thing correctly and seeing the AC input connectors exposed ???? No thanks.
That being said, I started searching for info on my Motorola and it turns out it is an Anstron RS 10 with a Motorola Decal on it. I figure I have had it for close to 20 years and it was...
