Perhaps he was using a 2 meter amplifier. If you're having trouble hitting a particular repeater improve your antenna first. Anything outdoors up in the air is a good place to start, but your needs may vary. Were you at home, in your car, or on foot? Are you sure your radio was set to use the...
Yes Chirp from danplanet.com will also allow you to choose which freqs you want to skip during a scan of the programmed memories as well as the power output.
What I really like is the feature that allows you to download the various repeater details for a particular area. You can use Repeater...
That looks like a great buy to me. I have had a pair of the original UV5R radios for over six months. One is used with an Elk log periodic for FM satellite work, and the other has a Diamond antenna that's used in my vehicle. LCD screen gets wonky in the hot summer sun, but comes back after it...
I use two different verticals, in that they cover different bands better than the other. I also use an OCF (Off Center Fed) dipole. I use whatever antenna works best at the time. If I had room for a beam, I'd run the others with it.
Everyone's QTH is different. Experiment.
That will be interesting. I've only got 5w for FM, but I'll give it a whack. Hmm...I'm seeing this in January: January VHF
Looks like 50Mhz and up. Should be fun.
I have a problem with the touch lamps as well. Wondered why the lamps built into my headboard were on, when nobody had gone in there yet. It only happened on certain HF bands, which is funny too. Anyways, it caused plenty of RFI. Massive RFI I should say, when those lights are on. I moved the...
Band was bad yesterday, and today. I'm in central California and I'm hearing Florida although, even that is dropping out. South America is starting to come in. K4XS in Florida said he only had a few contacts in Europe this morning (his time).
It's a rough one for ARRL 10. I may mow the lawn and...
I purchased one the other day. It's 20' up, and works fine 10, 12, 15, and 17 meters with 100 watts. I didn't adjust a thing on the antenna, but I did check it with a RigExpert first.
If your antenna isn't tuned, you'll need a tuner as well. Add that to the cost, or pickup a vertical that's pre tuned to keep the SWR low, but I would presume you're going to have a loss with one of those compromise antennas.
- Jetstream JTV680 (I would choose this over the Diamond)
- Diamond...
Okay that's what I was hoping. I received Ed's email about the radio, but didn't come across, or simply overlooked the backlit details on that email, or another read he has on it.
I'm using an HT now and hit repeaters no problem, but don't have a decent 2/440 radio with some juice. I do have...
I can tell you that if you get a vanity call sign - *Poof* it's gone. I think there's also a box you can check to be issued a new sequential call sign when you take/pass the test. My guess is that it would have the same affect as a vanity.
I do not know is if your logbook would remain if you...
If anyone asked me I'd say I cannot read Japanese. That being said, it appears the release date is November as I can identify 11 and the kanji for month right after it.
Thank you for the write up. The KX3 pretty much kills my 817ND for hiking and air travel and should work well with the mini-buddipole to keep things compact. So many features it's impossible to resist. My want would be a good case to protect it, but should fare well in my carry on with the...
