I just got a pc122 and hooked it up to my meter. The radio dead-keys 5 watts am, but has no modulation on am or SSB. I hooked a speaker to the PA and it worked just fine. I'm kind of baffled on why their is no modulation. Suggestions?
I have a PC122XL. Then problem I am having is, no transmit on AM or SSB. The radio recieves just fine. What should I check on it? I bought it for next to nothing, to see if I could get it fixed. There is also a small hole drilled in the case, in the front right corner. This makes me...
ok, i hooked up a watt meter and did what u suggested. No change in the carrier power. However, if you turn the knob full counter clockwise and wiggle it, the static cuts in and out monentarly(sp?).
I am having more problems with my 148GTL manufacture date 1989 made in phillapens(sp?). The RF gain is not working. If you turn the knob counter or clockwise there is no difference in the recieve. Basically its stuck on full clockwise or full recieve. I am thinking the knob is bad, but how...
Well, I finally got the radio to the shop. SSB was wayyyy off freq, and no TX or RX on AM. The radio ended up needed an alignment really really bad. The dude said he never saw one this bad. Any way, $50.00 later it hears excellant, and got it tuned up with %100 modulation.
I am an active ham and still use CB. I run all Mobile HF/VHF. I still have my Cobra 148GTL hookup up in my car, and use it to talk to a few local guys on 38 LSB. Yes, there are bad CB operators, but the same goes for HAM operators too.
Too spendy. My $650.00 ft-857D can do all what that thing can do. It just doesn't have all those bells and whisles you'll never use like that one does. Just like Icoms $10,000 radio  you have way too much money to burn if you have one of those.

I also ran one for about a year with no problems. I really liked the radio. It has the basics of what u need to get on the air, and the price is right too. I ended up selling mine when I moved because of antenna restrictions we have(live right next to an airport). I run all mobile now...
I am having a problem with my older Cobra 148GTL, manufactured in 89 made in Phillipines. The radio will transmit fine, but the recieve audio sucks. You can't make out what the person is saying. It sounds like they are talking with a mouth full of crap. This is on AM and SSB. What could the...
