I have a Lincoln 2 arriving on 11/18, hope I will be happy with it. Replacing a drifty DX 949, want better SSB performance, a little more power without a separate amp. Doesn't have to be super loud on AM, as long as I can %100 modulation, I'll be happy on AM.
Getting back to your original post. If all tubes were equal in strength whether weak or strong, I don't think it matters.
It's when you have a few weak ones among the good ones that it would pose a problem.
Kind of like putting a dead D cell in with three new ones in a flashlight. The week one...
Okay, did not know that. Wow that amp probably heats the room nicely. With 6lq6/6je6c's getting pricey, don't be too quick trashing what seem to weak ones.
How many tubes does it use 3? If so 450 to 500 watts sounds about right . No way could you get 1000 out of 3. I have a Swan 500c that use a pair of these and it's good for a little over 300W PEP.

I just printed out the board layout and alignment point pages and seem to match my radio exactly. I think the SM I have is not right. Can't wait to print out the rest of this SM and go thru the alignment again.
I'll keep you guys posted.
PC385 main board.
In step 2 of the SM I can't find TEST POINT 16 (secondary winding of L18).
Maybe TP16 isn't marked. If that's the case how do I find the secondary winding of L18?
Thanks for the info, the schematic I have is not that good, that's why I didn't answer the first reply. I wonder just how removing that cap changes the transmit audio? Maybe more low end?
I plan on restoring it and want to undo some of the mods done.
I think it also the clarifier mod the...
I have put the radio on the "to do list". I just got a 949 and tweaked it up for now. I want to thank you for your post on how to set the final voltage on the new mosfet 949's as the SM on CB tricks is for the old 949's.
Thanks.
Well I installed the new '817 and it worked! So the ecg on was at fault.
Now the bad news.
I was checking the biases. The driver bias was a little off, adjusted that. I have adjusted biases in both radios and audio amps before so I'm familiar with it.
When I was adjusting the final bias I...
