According to The Obama administration, there is a way to keep civies safe during a war.
It was more than the H-bombs, Tokyo was obliterated by conventional fire bombings. I personally know 2 people who are still alive today, right now, that lived in Tokyo during the fire bombings of WWII...
You mean you have an instrument rating that is simply out of currency.
Its not appropriate to comment on bombing innocent civilians when Pres. Obama just visited Hiroshima - Not such a proud moment in U.S. war history. There is no good story in death to innocent women and children no matter...
Actually the pirates feel that the FCC is restricting the Freedom of Speech Most are contrarian conformists. If they thought they would never get caught, they wouldn't lock their doors and operate in "broad daylight" Most don't do that.
Some even obtain amateur radio licensing so the FCC...

Do you have your instrument ticket? Commercial Ticket? What endorsements do you currently hold; complex, high performance, CFI?
Aviation rocks..I like it, and invested as much time in learning to fly as learning about radio...
Since your brain is already in "Learn Mode" why not just go for Extra ticket. Why accept restrictions?
It's really not to hard and I encourage you to go for the top.
From the FCC website :
"The HF bands can be awfully crowded, particularly at the top of the solar cycle. Once one earns HF...

Nice radio collection! I see you enjoy the large bandwidth and microprocessor control.
Do you use your radios for AM mostly or SSB? How do you find the export performance vs your Madison?
Nice..just looked it up...lots of stuff on that baby!!!
Love the SSB Filter - That must sound fantastic.
Thanks Again, Tallman!! Your input to my post does make a difference to me and my decisions.
I'm obliged to you.
No cage considered rattled!! Actually, every post with the exception of a few, I have researched. From the Stryker, Magnum S-9, RCI and 148 cb version and the DX version. i do feel an affinity to the 148DX
May I ask which manufacture you prefer? As in Kenwood, Icom or Yeasu?
I do like that...
So much good information here. Thanks to all who responded with useful 411 and not being drunk behaving like children and cussing at people.
Anyway ..
Tallman the specs you referenced are for the RX filter not the TX bandwidth ?.. i must have not been clear. At least thats what I think...
Heres the "subjective" specs direct from the manufactures
Ranger 2980wx
AM / CW: 0.7 µV for 10 db SINAD - Not as good as the 148
SSB .2 uv for 10db SINAD - About the Same as the 148
Spurious Emission - More Than 60 dB - Better than the 148
IF Rejection More than 80 db at 455 KHz Not nearly...
no, specs published by the manufactures
Those arent subjective but questionable
as far as an export is concerned they barley keep up with the 148 - in specs. who cares about the meter, the robot voice and echo or the 8 watts that hardly makes a difference over 4 watts.
Im concered with...
I didn't know all that but thanks for even more info!! I did consider a 2000 but the cost is to high for an almost 148.
One more question about common exports.
Is it true that the commonly frequency counters on exports only read 1 of the signals inside the radio and assume the other to be spot...
thanks robb - thats about what I thought Im in the market to get a new setup and I wanted to get the best for the investment.
Being not impressed with watts and I only need to cover 26-28 I think given what you have said I am leaning to the older 148 and get a nice tube amp.
