Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

Buyer beware - the details almost always tell more than the story-teller wants to let out.

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

Sometimes fitting, and sometimes not: “I worked with the navy SEALS” COOL! “I am a NAVY SEAL” EVEN COOLER!!! “I worked in the engineering department” COOL! “I was an ENGINEER” way COOOLER!!!!!! “I couldn’t make it and now I work in a chicken processing plant - except I’m out of work...

    “Get a life”

Raise an old thread - you’re picked on. Use caps = picked on. Post about putting a dummy load up your ass = nothing. I will *never* get it, nor the humor (God, I can only hope it’s an attempt at humor) used here at WWDX.

    “Get a life”

Agreed. But..the forum seems to have ZERO consequences For this behavior....especially if one is a part of the daily games. Those folks are special and have great liberty in shitting on others.

    “Get a life”

That’s the response that I got from senior forum member [name deleted by admin] when expressing my opinion about his jokes mocking deaf folks. There’s been similar posts targeting minorities and women...forum and chat. This isn’t the first time. The board is at times ripe with discrimination...

    grounding rod question

Installing at a limit of 45 degrees is typical when encountering rock. But with only 3.5 feet to work with, you still ain’t gonna get it all in the ground. Next alternative is a 30” deep trench with the entire rod buried at that depth.

    FT-891...anyone try this mod?

I chickened out, Mudfoot. As gigaparts does this mod I went that route. Amazingly, it’s due here today with the “free shipping” option. Not complaining. Excited, but I think have an uphill battle with learning the menus/programming and figuring out how to make it switch my amplifier.

    Center loaded mobile antennas ?

Well, when you get that 1/4 up and running let us know what you think and how it compares with the half wave you’re running. I’m very curious on that. As I mentioned, I’ve considered a number of antennas for static mobile...but I’m kind of leaning towards a delta loop. But some day I’ll get...

    Center loaded mobile antennas ?

I’ve used a copper pipe and a stainless whip. Identical lengths, and they show zero difference in use, or on my analyzer. But..I think your thoughts on copper was a side comment and not necessarily your motivation for building this way... More importantly, you get to see how a full 1/4, no...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I understand. I think we were just dealing with a disconnect on terminology. I have no doubt the rig needs as much power as the manufacturer states. In this particular case, I’d be very hesitant to run SSB with a setup like referenced, even with regulation at the source, because the voltage...

Why not use a trench, and put the full 8’ in?

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I don’t doubt you at all...but the AM carrier is what I was referring to. I think most 100w rigs do not have a carrier that high? I’m ok being wrong though, as is definitely applicable from time to time. :)

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

I don’t think it’s enough...but there’s simply no way for me to know for sure. The efficiency of the transceiver and the duty cycle of the device at full output would be absolutely critical to making an informed decision. Absent that, overkill is the only answer. If I went that route (and I...

Radio requires 13.8 volts, I only have a 12 volt battery system

Only way to know for sure is to measure it, unless the manufacturer tells you the answer. 100w / 13v is 7.7 amps. Have to factor in efficiency...which is almost certainly higher at full output than it is at QRP levels. 50 % efficiency would double the ampere draw...15 and change. I suspect...
