Still the same with SR8. The only thing on the back is the so-239, the tuner connector, ALC, key, relay, and power connectors. I've had mine for about a week, so far no complaints. It's everything I expected. I bought it for HF phone, and it will be going mobile.

Since the main board in this is a 69610z just like the Galaxy 949/959, and they have variable RF power, shouldn't there be a spot on the board ready make to add an external power control?

Right, it's a 2970 non DX. It should still have an EPT295013Z main board, it just has a single final and the amplifier section attached to the bottom.

It should be just in front of T1 on 2950 board.

Check for a jumper or resistor in place of R223 which will be one of the resistors in front of Q42 which is in front of T1, the transformer in the back left corner of the radio with the knobs toward you. Remove whatever is in place of R223 and you should remove the talkback.

There are kits on Ebay that do just what you are proposing. Try looking for mods on installing dual finals in a 949/959, get schematics of both the 929 and the 949 and look for the differences... not much really. Also you can get a schematic for a Galaxy 2517 MOSFET version and see how Galaxy...

Interesting, I too have a Pro Star 400 and it only has one clarifier, but it DOES adjust receive and transmit. Great little rig though.
