    uniden pc810e

If you're buying: Pick up a used Teaberry 202, or Cobra 142 instead. If you're selling: $75 (on Ebay) or wait awhile because it's a "Buyers Market" right now and stuff is selling lower than normal. Personal experience: I owned one for awhile but it's size was an immediate turn-off (I like...

    VIDEOGRAPHY

Look for a used Sony DCR-TRV950. I bought a couple of them when they were $1600 ea. The biggest reason to buy it is because it's a 3CCD unit (most are 1CCD), so you get a much better picture and nice saturated colors. Other reasons: While it records in stereo, it has some nice accessories...

    President 2510 ERR 4

This may be an easy one, but on transmit when you key on AM it immediately goes to an ERR 4. On SSB it takes strong audio to get that same error. Don't have a manual, I'm guessing SWR?? But the rig before that didn't have any issues (not to say something couldn't have changed). I'll get around...

    shack in progress

Okay, but I'll still keep my eyes open should the XYL's of America align thereselves with SPECTRE, or even worse - "THRUSH" (I shudder to think of that partnership). In the meantime, I put in a call to the ARRL "Special OPs" division and they're coming your way. They were very interested in my...

    shack in progress

Photoshop Photo? It goes against the grain having a neat and tidy shack...in fact, it looks TOO neat and tidy. Could this be an XYL posting the photo after she went into photoshop and got rid of the mess that most shacks are in?? Perhaps it's a clandestine group of XYL's from coast-to-coast and...

    1st Base

An AM/SSB Base Radio would be a good choice. But there is a subset to that choice - Do you buy an Approved by FCC CB, or do you risk it and buy and export? My two cents: go with the approved by FCC CB (at least for your first Base) Re: Power Supply. If it's really a base station it will have...

    Problem with Cobra 2000GTL

Did you do an "Eyeball" inspection inside the rig, checking for blown capacitors, burned resistors, or other suspicious looking components in that area?

New guy needs help with base station

Here's my two cents: 1. Buy used 2. Stay away from the stuff made in China (if it's an older base you won't have to worry about it) 3. Figure out if you just want to start out on AM or AM and SSB. If you're alert, you can pick up a AM/SSB base for under $100 on EBAY. 4. Don't get caught up...

    ARRL and FCC, good reading:

I joined a couple years ago. At that time I could still buy QST magazine at one of the book stores, and it was about $3.15 after sales tax (a little over $37/year) and for $39 I get the membership, and have the mag delivered to my house. There are the typical pratfalls like knowing approx. when...
