audio was good on both am and ssb with the resistors cut with a turner +2 mic and a cobra xl350 through an old super magnum 1/2 wave. I adjusted the mic gain on am and ssb by listening on headphones through a 148 with rf gain down and no antenna. Both seemed clear with am liking more mic gain...
I got a president grant with a 8719. r130 and 131 were cut, so I resoldered them, but now I have low ouput power and modulation on am. Ssb is fine. What do I need to do to remedy this?
lol well I learned something I should have thought of before. There is no receive through the linear  I'm betting it was used with separate receiver/transmitter. Looks like I'll be spending some time reading the old copy of the Radio handbook I have or just get a bigger power supply...
okay, so I'm making some slight progress with the small amount of free time I have. I got a tuner, albeit one only rated at 300 watts, and I'm working on the keying relay idea. Couldn't I use a simple dc relay powered from a power supply with the rf out of the transmitter connected to the...
Okay, I was concerned about the clear goo in the top left picture, and was just trying to figure out what else had been done. I assumed the clarifier mod was done as well.
Purchased this today from a guy locally who said the radio was stock. Didn't take too long to figure out that it wasn't. I'm thinking it has had a channel mod done but I'm not sure what else. R131 looks to be intact so I believe the mod limiter is still there. I turned the am down a fuzz...
I believe the rest of the taps are lower voltage. I'm okay with the 300 out as i already had a new pair of 811's sitting around. I do need to research the keying circuit and bias and see if I can attempt to do those mods
wavrider,
what all would be needed to make the linear function correctly? How much drive would this require? Can you give specifics about the bias and relay? I would like to sell it, but I'm also drawn to tubes :) so I may end up keeping it. What would the difference be in output if I put...
it's part of a silent key estate sale. There is probably a keying relay somewhere in the piles of stuff I took out of the basement, but I'm not sure I even want to mess with it. I'm by no means an electronic expert.
I recently acquired this old tube amplifier from an estate sale, but have no idea how to tune it or test it as it does not appear to have the standard settings or knobs to tune. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has 2 811-a and 2 3b28 tubes. Also, I'm assuming I need a vintage...
