Well sorry to hear that, you can always go park on top of a hill, and work DX with it.The competition was not held. I was left with the desire to compete.
How many watts? Any damage to the paint under those three magnets?Sometimes I mount my 102 ss whip on top of my old extended cab pickup dead center using a triple mag mount, heavy duty barrel spring and a tram quick disconnect. That's what I use sometimes when I'm parked to DX. In that configuration I get a 1.1 match all away across the 27 meter band. I just don't like to drive around like that because I hit pert'near everything. But, it works great.
My radio is a Galaxy DX 94hp dead low key at 2 watts and high dead key at 10. It modulates nearly 120 watts so, no problem whatsoever. 0 paint damage. How many watts? Any damage to the paint under those three magnets?
That's great that you can talk DX with a two-watt dead-key and 120 watts PEP. Or is it 120 watts average? My radio is a Galaxy DX 94hp dead low key at 2 watts and high dead key at 10. It modulates nearly 120 watts so, no problem whatsoever. 0 paint damage.
Not sure what ya call it but, it swings, forward modulates forward between 100 to 120 watts or so.That's great that you can talk DX with a two-watt dead-key and 120 watts PEP. Or is it 120 watts average?
Yeah I had 102" whip back in the 70s on a Volks Wagon and had trouble smacking things. Would never have another unless it was a permanent stationary antenna. Of coarse that is just my opinion. LOL OH yes and center of the roof.I just don't like to drive around like that because I hit pert'near everything. But, it works great.
I had the very same experience, but after consulting with several knowledgeable hams, they told me the Truck Body acts like the Counterpoise and may very well give better reception reports with various antennas over the 102" whip. The true test would be to have a friend with a good radio and large meter face sit 20 miles out or so and give you signal reports from the two antennas.I ran a 102" whip for years on my pickup. mounted in the center of the front bedrail, right behind the cab. SWR was 1.2 to 1.3 and had great luck with it....I aquired a Predator 10K and replaced the 102" whip and noticed it tuned flat...1.1 and that I was hearing things the 102" did not. Why?? I have no idea but the 10K is still on my pickup. Tried the same thing on my big truck. I was using a Wilson 5000 and replaced it with a 10K. Same thing happened, I was hearing things I never did with the Wilson. This isnt meant to be a sales pitch but real world experience
